Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

Years ago, during a time of great transition, I employed everything imaginable to soothe my anxiety. I was constantly envisioning the worst possible scenarios, convincing myself that if I prepared for every outcome, I would somehow feel safer.

Then I came across the idea that, “Worry is a rehearsal for all the things we don't want.”

Slowly, I began to ask myself a different question: "What if it all works out?" And surprise, surprise, all these year later I have the evidence that it more than worked out. Sure, there were stumbles and losses and pain along the way, but nothing became my worst case possibility.

This week's sleep meditation, Boundary of Calm, invites you to create a protective space around yourself, gently pushing anxious thoughts and worries farther away with every breath. Together, we'll explore The Room Where It All Worked Out, a velvet-lined Quiet Room where racing thoughts lose their momentum, and a moonlit garden that reminds you of your own spaciousness after anxiety has asked you to become small.

If you've been carrying too much lately, consider this your invitation to take a holiday from worry.

Tonight, you don't have to solve, plan, prepare, or brace yourself for what comes next.

You only have to rest.

It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

Tonight’s sleep meditation is one that many of you have been asking for and focuses on depression relief.

Everyone’s experience with depression is different. The first time I dealt with it I was so young and ambitious that I didn’t even realize what that lingering malaise was.

This latest meditation comes with a sense of openness, understanding that sometimes depression makes everything feel “blah” and cast in a palette of grey. Sometimes it comes with an unrelenting voice of criticism, or a feeling of being stuck.

“The Safe Nest” invites you into a sanctuary created just for you. No matter what you are going through, you may release the weight of striving, soften self-criticism, and be held exactly as you are.

Imagine being lowered into a beautiful nest woven from comfort, safety, and warmth. Within it, there is only rest, warmth, and the gentle reminder that you don't have to carry everything alone.

If your heart has been feeling heavy lately, I hope this meditation offers a little comfort tonight.

It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

The weather is so fantastic today. I stumbled upon a street fair just outside and wandered for blocks. Ike was such a good pup, doing his best to navigate around the footsteps of crowds, big dogs, and the tantalizing smells off charcoal grills.

And while nothing makes me happier than days where the air no longer hurts my face, when it comes time to fall asleep, I love a moody sky and ominous weather.

This week's sleep story takes us out of perfect summer days for a cool escape to the fjords of Norway. Luxuriate on a yacht that sails beneath the Northern Lights.

I recently read The Woman in Cabin 10, and this isn't the first time a suspense thriller has provided atmospheric inspiration for a sleep story.

Snuggle up and unwind tonight with "The Midnight Fjords."

It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

This week's sleep meditation ‪@MichellesMeditationSanctuary‬, "Hopecore: The Veil of Promise," comes from a place of yearning for hope to become as infectious as all the other things going viral these days.

I've learned with time that no matter how much I ache to return to the purity of hope I carried as a 17-year-old, freshly unleashed in New York City, hope changes with us. Its patina deepens. It may become quieter, a little less intense, but it still glows. And the more it's nurtured, the brighter that glow becomes.

I didn't have to feed my hope back then. It fed itself and sparked hope in others. Now, I find that same feeling reflected in my young nieces and nephews, whose wonder and joy remind me that hope is always waiting to be rekindled.

I invite you to indulge yourself tonight with a journey into the Hopecore Forest, where your yearnings are protected, possibility lingers in the moonlit air, and the nocturnal world stirs a little magic within.

It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

Time travel has been on my mind and inspired a new series I’ve created called “The One Hundred-Year Cabin.”

In each new story, we’ll experience the cabin through the lens of a different decade and season, finding all the comforts that remain in its storied log walls throughout time.
Tonight’s sleep story brings us to the first summer at the cabin in 1924. Travel by steam train to the deep woods of Maine, where you connect with nature and enjoy adventures with a pup by your side.

Snuggle up and unwind in this quiet oasis beyond the moonlit pines, where the rhythms of the day and night answer the call of the loon, the sun’s fading light, and the infinite starry sky. It’s time to dream away. 🌙

Ike makes a surprise appearance in this week’s video as he couldn’t stop obsessing over my new taper candles. His sighs were plentiful and carefully edited out as I recorded the vocals. So of course, the spirit of a pup is quite prevalent through this release!

Going live Sunday May 17th, at 7PM EST!

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothering figures and maternal souls who keep this world thriving with their boundless energy and care. I hope you all find a moment for some well-deserved pampering and deep rest tonight.

I was so touched this morning when my partner surprised me with flowers for being the "best dog mom" to Ike. It’s a reminder that maternal energy comes in many forms, and I strive every week to pour that same love and intention into Michelle’s Sanctuary and the maternal characters we’ve all come to cherish in our stories.

This week’s sleep story, “Midnight Train Through the Eras" is inspired by a dreamy vision I had just before falling to sleep weeks ago, imagining a train where every carriage led to another era and I was able to learn something from each one. I’m hopelessly romantic and nostalgic and these time travel stories give me an outlet. I find it grounding to understand that every era offers its challenges and its beauty, even as we navigate the tricky era we now find ourselves in.

Tonight, Travel from the uninhibited glee of the Roaring '20s to a golden sunset coastal ride in 1974. Eventually, the tracks lead us to the quiet, mahogany luxury of a private sleeper car where you can finally surrender to total rest and the peace of coming home to yourself.

Wishing you a beautiful, restorative night. It’s time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

What a lovely way to end a long week 💜 I’ve been teaching every day this weekend, and this one just made it in time.

Someone recently asked if we could return to the Candleglow Inn (from Winter Dreams on Lake Michigan), and it felt like the perfect moment to revisit this cozy little bed and breakfast—this time in the quiet of spring, and back with Fran.

Tonight’s sleep story brings you to the lakeshore, where cherry blossoms drift like pink snow and the water moves in soft, steady waves. Inspired by my step-grandmother, Fran, you’ll settle again into her warm, comforting world… and for a very special reason, you’ll also meet Gabby—a spirited little gardener inspired by my niece, who’s been waiting very patiently to find her way into a story.

If you’ve been here before, come back. If not, consider this your invitation to experience a bit of small-town lakeside magic tonight. No need to be familiar with the first to be fully immersed in this latest one!

Find a cozy spot—it’s time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

I’m always a bit surprised when the theme of my Sunday sleep story release mirrors the world outside. This morning, Manhattan was cloaked in mist before the rain and wind took over.

In response to your requests for a change of scenery, 'Cabin in the Fog' carries us across the country to Pacific Coast and the beautiful forests of Washington State. Enjoy a mystical getaway to a beloved mid-century cabin that carries the legacy of its original owners. As the fog thickens, find comfort by the wood stove with a beloved pup, and escape into a timeless world of serenity.

Last week I went on a waterfall hike with my family and Ike, charging ahead, and it certainly influenced this week's release (and the fun of travels with an adventurous pup).

Wishing you the best week to come and a night of great sleep.

It’s time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep

I’ll admit it. My latest go-to fantasy visualization is being on a luxurious mattress on a raft floating down a river beneath a moonlit sky. And so, it’s become the backdrop for this week’s guided sleep meditation, “All You Are Becoming,” a journey to meet your future self.

Have you ever imagined going back to a younger version of you, offering empathy and support, and letting your younger self know that you made it to the other side? My childhood wasn’t easy—many of ours aren’t—but my imagination was the pathway out, to the life I now so happily live on my own terms. I often think of how nice it would be to let that grief-stricken 8-year-old know that it really does get better.

If you are dealing with questions now, imagine the kind, steady eyes of you in the future, letting you know it all works out. Imagine giving yourself a chance to find comfort in not knowing everything, but honoring all that you are becoming.

I hope this meditation lands with grace and comfort, and that you find lightness and ease floating down that sleepy river under the moonlight. It’s time to dream away.
