Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
How do I release a new sleep story every week when I get writer’s block? Sometimes I just have to pay attention to the little things around me. And once the story is finished, I’m more surprised than anyone to hear what I’ve created. 🌿
I grew up in a small riverside town, a place where generations of families settled and where the river was always part of the landscape and the rhythm of everyday life. Now, a hundred miles south, I look toward the George Washington Bridge and remember days spent skipping stones on a river beach of broken, faded bricks. I’ve been wanting to create a new series called Down By The Riverside, and all the little pieces of my past have made their way into Willow Grove.
Summer’s Last Breath is the first story, a nostalgic journey into a little town where summer is slowly giving way to autumn, filled with historic streets, familiar faces, simple pleasures, and the peaceful feeling of somewhere you can return to whenever you need a sense of community, familiarity, and home.
It’s time to dream away.

I am getting some beach time in this week and was wondering, where would you most like to go? If you have a beach I haven't mentioned, add it to the comments. You never know when a sleep story may bring us there.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
I burrow beneath my pillows each night, and sometimes my mind wanders to all the places in the world where there are depths still waiting to be explored.
The depths of the sea, with its vast blue landscapes hidden beneath the surface. The ocean floor, where coral gardens and strange luminous creatures create an entire world we rarely get to see.
And then I think about the depths of space. The seemingly infinite expanses beyond our atmosphere, filled with stars, nebulae, distant worlds and so much we haven't even begun to understand.
This week’s sleep meditation invites you to take things as deep as they may go—beyond the familiar, into the deepest pockets of bone-deep peace.
It’s time to dream away.

Eight years ago I wrote a fantasy tale, “Magical Winter Journey With Wolves,” a transformative nighttime experience roaming a winter landscape with a pack of wolves. I’ve been asked to write another wolf story ever since, and this week brings an enchanting summer adventure beneath the stars.

When I was 16, I came to NYC to audition for Juilliard’s acting program. A small-town girl with zero training, completely out of her league.
A 3rd-year student met me at check-in and brought me to the audition room, pretending to be a horse the entire time. Clopping sounds and all, insisting I take the reins and hang on for dear life.
A trio of gray-haired thespians sat demurely through my lousy Hamlet monologue, chosen only because I was a diehard Bette Midler fan and, in Outrageous Fortune, Shelley Long’s character was obsessed with playing Hamlet.
After this humbling performance, I wandered up Broadway in the rain in the delightful solitude of having the city to myself, and thought: this is home. And the Upper West Side has been my home now for over 23 years.
The second thought was: there’s no way I can be a horse. Or a cat. Or a dog. Or any other creature. I’m just not that free.
But my nightly dreams always proved otherwise: I could be anything.
And to me, a sleep story has always been a little like a dream, filling up that space between wakefulness and slumber when possibilities feel endless.
When I wrote the first wolf story nearly a decade ago, I thought, well… I can write about being a wolf, but I can never actually act like one.
Then I met Ike, my little howling Chihuahua, and learned to howl along with him.
And it felt fantastic.
Maybe pretending to be a wolf wouldn’t be as hard as I once imagined.
I hope this week’s story helps you connect with your inner wild… your inner wolf… and that beautiful chance every night brings to become, for a little while, anything you can imagine.
It’s time to dream away. 🌙

I think we all deserve a summer escape that lives within us. The scent of pine needles and a sunlit lake on a pristine day. Cedar cabins and campfires. A place filled with community and nostalgia, where the sizzle of a grill and the echoes of conversation across a cove come together to create the perfect summer night.
It’s why I started The Lake Chalet Series, with the characters Martha and Ike inspired by my grandparents and our weekly trips to the local hardware store, where they would indulge me with a paper bag of candy that I turned into my afternoon candy salad.
My stories always come from something personal to me, whether it’s distant memories of small-town America and my grandparents, or a few hours spent wandering through a new city or setting. My mind is always scanning the world around me, wondering what might resonate with all of you.
I hope you enjoy this week’s sleep story, “Summer Wishes.”

Journey to the Witches’ Cottage in tonight’s sleep story, “Painted Wishes.”
Have you ever envisioned something for your life and watched it slowly come to life?
Last week, as I descended into Bear Mountain beneath skies touched by distant plumes of wildfire smoke, I felt a profound sadness. I thought about the three sisters and their deep connection to nature, and their belief that a single dream and a single soul can change the world.
I created this series to honor that enduring hope and the maternal energy we all need when the world feels too heavy.
Tonight, each sister casts her own wish into the sky… and you are invited to cast yours as well, onto a limitless canvas waiting for your vision.
It’s time to dream away.

What’s the last thing you did just for the sake of feeling good?
This week I took my niece and nephew to Great Escape—a day reserved completely for fun. Each season I choose an intention, and this summer has been dedicated to making good memories and focusing on feeling good.
I could list dozens (if not hundreds) of reasons why fun gets pushed aside. We live in a time of constant information, endless distractions, and it's easy for striving to become our default.
That's become a big motivation for me as a creator. The stories in this sanctuary are designed to soften the night and bring a little imaginative play before you drift across the bridge to sleep.
They're filled with comforting sensory details and nostalgic yearnings, gently inviting you to remember places that made your heart feel a little lighter—or places you've always longed to visit. Envision a small escape where nothing is expected of you except to relax, enjoy, and simply be.
Feel-Good Bedtime Escapes premieres Sunday at 7:30 PM EST.
Enjoy 4.5 hours of continuous storytelling with no mid-roll ads as you drift through cozy destinations designed to help you unwind, let go of the day, and fall peacefully asleep.
It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
I just returned from a whirlwind week of adventures in Louisville attending my first cheese conference thanks to a scholarship from Vermont Creamery. I’ve led over 2000 classes over the past 12 years, teaching people about their palates, and it was such a nice change of pace to be the student.
So many story ideas came to me as I walked along the Ohio River, listened to the stories of pioneering women in the dairy industry, and found myself in the lobby of the Brown Hotel and among the promenade of Old Louisville. I look forward to how they unfold.
This week’s sleep story, “Midnight at the Museum,” is inspired by a sanctuary in my neighborhood—a place I once volunteered at during Halloween and the Christmas season that has now become a frequent stop whenever my niece visits. They have been known to hold sleepovers under the blue whale, and I thought it would be a perfect cool escape during a quiet, torrid summer.
I hope it helps you all find peace and sleep as a new week unfolds. It’s time to dream away.

Whenever I travel, I always keep rain sounds playing through the night.
There's something about that gentle, steady rhythm that helps me relax and settle into sleep, even in an unfamiliar place.
I know I'm not the only one who finds rain so soothing, so I've gathered five of my favorite guided sleep meditations into one new collection, all accompanied by continuous gentle rain.
If you're someone who loves falling asleep to the sound of rain, I hope this collection helps you unwind, let go of the day, and drift into a deep, restful sleep. It’s time to dream away. ☔️🌙
