Present with Pizzazz β 3 PowerPoint tips most professionals overlook
"Not another PowerPoint slideβ¦" π©
We've all muttered it. Coffee in hand, mints in the other, mentally bracing for the next 20 minutes.
But here's the question that haunts me more:
What if YOU are the presenter looking out at that audience? π
Most professionals obsess over their slides. The animations. The transitions. The layout. And in doing so, they make a critical mistake β they let the slides do the talking instead of letting the slides work WITH them.
After working with countless clients on their presentation skills, here are 3 things that consistently separate forgettable slide decks from truly powerful ones:
βββββββββββββββββ
β START WITH YOURSELF, NOT YOUR SLIDES πͺ
Before you touch a single slide, ask: what is my point?
I spend a substantial part of my consultations asking clients to reiterate their key messages β without the slides. No deck. No crutch. Just them and their core message.
It's uncomfortable. And that's exactly the point.
If your slide at any given moment mirrors the exact answer to "what is my point?" β you've taken the first step toward a presentation that truly works with you, not against you.
βββββββββββββββββ
Article content
β‘ GIVE YOUR AUDIENCE A TREASURE MAP πΊοΈ
Fancy animations and vivid pictures may bedazzle your audience for a few seconds β but all those bells and whistles will come to nothing if your audience finds it a hassle to follow you.
Think of your slides as a treasure map your audience navigates alongside you.
Signposting. Transition phrases. Check-in slides that recap understanding before moving forward. These aren't decorative touches β they're the navigational tools that keep your audience on the journey with you, especially when the content gets complex.
βββββββββββββββββ
β’ CREATE A NARRATIVE. TELL A STORY. π
This doesn't mean forcing unrelated anecdotes into your deck.
It means structuring your slides like an open book β with an attention-grabbing introduction and a satisfying, all-rounded conclusion. When you reframe your content as a narrative, something powerful happens: you start to see the logical links between the different aspects of your presentation. And so does your audience.
Narrative isn't a nice-to-have. It's one definite method to maximise memory retention.
βββββββββββββββββ
But here's the bigger picture β and this is something I've been thinking about deeply.
A great presentation isn't just about slides or delivery. It's about your Speaker's Value.
Speaker's Value = (Content Value Γ Base) ^ Creativity & Intention
Content value is what you know and how well you've honed your craft.
Base is your reach β how many people your message actually touches.
But what elevates it to an exponential level? π
Creativity in your approach. And positive intention β for the betterment and benefit of the people in the room.
In a world flooded with information (and misinformation), the professionals who rise are not just those who know the most. They are the ones who deliver with originality, responsibility, and genuine care for their audience.
That is the architecture of lasting influence.
What's one thing you've changed about how you present that made a real difference? Share below π

Why Most Presentations Fail (And How to Fix It)
I used to sit through presentations that were technically correct β and utterly forgettable.
No hook. No connection. Just a parade of facts, features, and statistics... on and on and on.
The presenter knew their stuff. But the audience had already checked out. πΆ
Here's the hard truth most professionals don't want to hear:
Your audience gives you 15 seconds to 1.5 minutes. β±οΈ That's your window. If you don't occupy their mindshare immediately β you've lost them.
After years of studying presentation frameworks, Monroe's Motivated Sequence remains one of the most underrated structures in professional communication.
Here's our take on it:
βββββββββββββββββ
β ATTENTION π― β Start with something startling.
Not a "Good morning, my name is..." Not a slow build-up. Something that gets them thinking immediately.
Try this: open with "Imagine this..." or "Picture this..." β and then paint a scenario that is either salutary or detrimental to their career, their business, or their goals.
You have seconds. Make them count.
βββββββββββββββββ
β‘ NEEDS π€ β Know their pain. Then share yours.
The most impressive thing a presenter can do is underscore the needs of their audience with precision.
Your boss listening to your pitch needs concise, coherent, and constructive delivery β insights over information.
A stakeholder in a strategy review needs clarity, not volume.
But here's what elevates it further: share the same needs. Say things like "I share the same philosophy..." β it breaks down trust barriers and elevates rapport in a way that pure expertise never can.
Nobody cares how much you know... until they know how much you care. π‘
βββββββββββββββββ
β’ SOLUTION π β Brevity and relatability are key.
This is where most presentations collapse under their own weight.
Don't fixate on features, statistics, and elaborations. Instead β briefly share what it does, then spend the majority of your time on HOW it alleviates your audience's problems.
Inject real testimonials. Not to brag β but to evince the transformation that others have successfully replicated. It's not the awesomeness of the features that your audience subscribes to. It's the applicability to their lives that matters.
βββββββββββββββββ
β£ VISUALIZATION π β Shore up their imagination.
Help your audience see the future β both short and long-term.
What does life look like the moment they act? What does it look like 12 months from now if they don't?
Structure your benefits across two timelines. Instant gratification + long-term consequence. That dual tension is what sustains attention right to the end.
βββββββββββββββββ
β€ ACTION π β Give them space to breathe.
The trick to a powerful call to action is this: don't push.
Let your ideas marinate. A voluntary subscription to your proposal always trumps a forced one.
Use buffers: "No obligations..." or "...feel free to take it back, discuss it β and if you find it meaningful and beneficial, here's the next step."
Your attitude more than your aptitude determines your altitude. π
βββββββββββββββββ
Most professionals know the content of their presentation cold.
What they're missing is the structure that makes it land. π€
Monroe's Motivated Sequence isn't just a framework β it's the architecture of persuasion.
What's the one presentation habit you wish you had built earlier in your career? Drop it in the comments π

β‘ Nervous Before You Speak? Try the 3-Second Reset.
Even experienced speakers feel nervous sometimes. The difference? They know how to reset their body and mind quickly.
Try this simple 3-second technique before you speak:
πInhale Deeply (1 second) β Breathe in through your nose to calm your nerves.
πRoll Your Shoulders Back (1 second) β Instantly improves posture and presence.
πPause and Smile (1 second) β Signals confidence to both your brain and your audience.
πThen Begin Slowly β Starting slower than usual helps you stay in control.
Focus on Helping, Not Impressing β Shift your mindset from fear to service.
π‘ Confidence is not the absence of nerves β itβs the ability to manage them effectively.

π― Want Your Audience to Actually Remember Your Speech? Do This.
Many speakers share information⦠but memorable speakers tell stories.
If you want your message to stick, storytelling is your secret weapon.
Use this simple structure:
πSet the Scene β Briefly describe the situation so your audience can visualise it.
πIntroduce the Challenge β What problem, conflict, or obstacle appeared?
πShare the Turning Point β What changed? What did you realise or do differently?
πDeliver the Lesson β Clearly state the takeaway your audience should remember.
πKeep It Concise β A focused story is far more powerful than a long one.
β¨ Remember: Facts inform, but stories transform. When people feel your message, they remember it.
