This is something every Canadian should pay attention to.
I've made a couple of videos on this topic, and I think it will become more and more important as the months go on. Largely American hedge funds have been buying up more and more Canadian government debt (reaching $600 Billion in 2024).
If they choose to sell this debt, or not repurchase it, the government could find itself in an existential situation. Moreover - what leverage does this give America when the government of Canada can only operate as a function of American hedge fund purchases?

Additionally, thank you to the sponsor of this video who helps keep this channel running, a longtime partner, Aura Frames.
After my recent bachelor party filled with great friends, football, golf, and a few too many beverages, I'm excited to get back to doing what I love - playing hockey and making more videos!
I hope you've all had a great summer, and that the year ahead is your best yet.
After taking some time to think about it, I'm making a change.
For the past few month's I've been posting The Russ Matthews Show - less structured podcast-style content which covers Canadian politics, economics, and current events.
I've realized that there's a significant group of people who have come to the channel for structured and edited economic-focused content, who aren't as interested in long form in-depth discussions or heavily political topics.
With that said, SO many of you have reached out expressing how much you dig the show - for that, I'm incredibly grateful!
So, for those who want to keep tuning into The Russ Matthews Show weekly, you can subscribe and keep following along on this dedicated channel! @TheRussMatthewsShow.
Or, keep listening on whatever your favourite podcast platform is (Just search "The Russ Matthews Show").
Thanks so much for your continued support, and I'll see you in the next video!

I've been doing some travelling this month, but we'll be back to our regularly scheduled videos next week 👍🏻
There's a lot going on in Canada and in the world right now, so we'll have no shortage of things to talk about!
But some time away from the office (and the country for that matter) has been refreshing, and has given some new perspective.
Thanks so much for following along with the channel - I'll talk to you soon!

Today is this channel's 4th birthday! 🎉🎉🎉
And it seems that 4 years ago, I decided to create a YouTube channel the day before my actual birthday, which is tomorrow, February 11th! :)
