Under the leadership of President Assimi Goïta, Mali has announced a major shift in its education system.

📚 What’s Changing?
Grade 9 students will no longer study the 1789 French Revolution or French history. Instead, the curriculum will be revised to focus on Malian and broader African history, culture, and heroes.

🎯 Why the Change?
The government says it wants to:
Prioritize African identity and historical pride
Move away from colonial-era narratives

Teach students about their own struggles, revolutions, and leaders

✊ A Move Toward Educational Sovereignty
This decision is part of a wider push across West Africa to reclaim cultural and historical independence from former colonial powers.

The countries will put about 5% of their tax money into the bank.
