I am an adult beginner violin player starting to play the violin since 15th January 2019 in New Zealand. At first I wanted to be self taught because I already had played music on other instruments so could read music especially in the treble clef but after 5 weeks I decided to go to a teacher because I didn't want to maybe discover I could be learning bad habits that might be difficult to unlearn. The first 5 weeks were the most difficult because I was playing on an awfully shaped bridge and didn't have a clue and can remember at my first lesson the teacher saying to me "you need to go to the luthier and get a new bridge made before you come to your next lesson"
