New details about Cars: Lightning Racers were revealed during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Disney Television Animation and Pixar shared an exclusive first look at the upcoming series, which is set to premiere in July 2027 on Disney Jr. and Disney+.

The show follows Lightning McQueen and Mater on brand-new adventures in Radiator Springs alongside two new characters: Pipes, a fearless drag racer, and Miles, a kind-hearted monster truck who loves off-road driving.

According to the creative team, the series has been in development for four years and was created in close collaboration with Pixar to remain faithful to the world of Cars. The team even explored unused storylines, unbuilt locations, and early concepts from the films to expand the universe.

One of the biggest focuses of the series is showing Lightning McQueen's everyday life outside of racing. Viewers will get to see more of his friendships, daily adventures, and life in Radiator Springs while the series continues to emphasize the franchise's core themes of friendship, teamwork, and community.

The creators also revealed redesigned versions of Lightning and Mater with a more expressive style for younger audiences, introduced the new Race Shop headquarters, and presented an exclusive clip from the third episode.

Described as a true labor of love by everyone involved, Cars: Lightning Racers is currently on track for its July 2027 premiere.
