The PPPQ was developed during AbouRass's advanced studies at the University of Pittsburgh and has been refined over five decades. The PPPQ transforms the patient pain story assessment into a structured, patient-centered diagnostic tool. It gives the clinician insight into the patient’s pain behavior, patterns, triggers, and psychosocial factors. It is based on verbal descriptors. It is more informative than visual analog scales (VAS), verbal rating scales (VRS), or numeric rating scales (NRS).
