The Rusty Pilot – Bonanza Adventures

Beechcraft Bonanza V-tail adventures, Garmin G3X/GTN 750Xi/GFC 500 upgrades, and IFR flying after 50. I’m documenting Bonanza ownership (N4FH), real-world instrument procedures, panel upgrades, trip planning, and the older pilot’s comeback from “rusty” to confident IFR.

New videos Wednesdays & Sundays. Practical avionics demos, cross-country vlogs from KADS, and honest ownership costs so Bonanza pilots can fly farther and safer.

The Rusty Pilot – Bonanza Adventures

Its been a big month around The Rusty Pilot family with some jet trips and getting really close to 1000 hours. The total time was at about 300ish 6 months ago and today its at about 800 hours.

The little AA1B has been a work horse for daily flying and the bulk time build while using the flight club planes for IFR.

Over the next few videos I'll talk through the total cost of this in detail.

The Rusty Pilot – Bonanza Adventures

Last leg of the trip to California and back to Dallas drops tomorrow.

My oldest boy is getting closer to finishing his 1000 hours up to move into being employable as a professional pilot.

January will have a few trips, a few deals of the week and where we are in progress to the around the world trip in 2027

The Rusty Pilot – Bonanza Adventures

Just dropped a new one: I flew the Bonanza from Addison up to Ardmore to meet my oldest boy for lunch.

He’s zero to ATP, about 500 hours, and doing it the old-fashioned way — a cheap little VFR time builder, long days, and no shortcuts.

This video hit me harder than I expected… especially the part about how his first ride in a “non-jet” was a helicopter to the hospital after a bad wreck.

If you watch it, tell me what you think of the ending — keep it quiet and reflective, or tighten it up?

The Rusty Pilot – Bonanza Adventures

We just got back from SAvannah for Christmas into Dallas. Met up with OpenSource GA for several QA's.

I'll release those over the next month and will jump back into the massive cross country trip with AZ back to Dallas tomorrow.

The next video is on putting the 100 Gallon Tip Tanks back on the plane. Is the thumbnail too much?

The Rusty Pilot – Bonanza Adventures

Today’s new episode might be the most beautiful approach I’ve ever flown.
Coast-to-coast in 48 hours, a solid marine layer sitting over Orange County, and a last-second side-step onto the short runway at John Wayne.

All in a 50-year-old V-tail Bonanza that just keeps proving itself.
If you enjoy real IFR, Garmin panels, and honest cockpit decision-making, this one’s worth a watch.

👇 Have you flown through the SoCal marine layer?
Would you do it solo—or only with someone who knows the airspace?

Ride along.
