From 2016 to 2017, Iraqi forces fought to take Mosul back from the Islamic State. A camera crew embedded with those units for nine months. This is what they brought back.

MOSUL follows Iraqi journalist Ali Maula through the operation, alongside war widow Um Hanadi and ISIS recruiter Nasser Issa. It moves between the groups who fought the same enemy without agreeing on much else: Sunni tribesmen, Shiite militias, Christian fighters, and Kurdish Peshmerga. The result is a portrait of a city taken apart and the people who stayed in it.
