“Not every crack needs a replacement. Sometimes, it just needs a pause.”

Was driving with my team when I noticed a coin stuck on the windshield.

I asked the driver, “What’s this?”

He said, “Sir, a small crack had started. We placed the coin here a year ago. It stopped the crack from spreading. No need to change the whole glass.”

That hit me hard.

In sales too — you might start the call on the wrong foot:

Maybe the prospect is in a bad mood.

Maybe you said something that didn’t land well.

Maybe they don’t trust you yet.


📍But just like that coin — you can stop the crack from spreading:

Acknowledge the tension.

Pause.

Say something like:
“Let me pause here — I feel this conversation might be heading in the wrong direction. Can we start fresh, just for a moment?”

Inject clarity or empathy.


> Sales is not about being perfect.
It’s about being aware — and knowing when to seal the crack before it ruins the whole conversation.

On my recent trip to Samode Palace, Jaipur
When I asked the caretaker of this magnificent banyan tree,
“Are these trunks or branches?”
He smiled and said,
“The original trunk has become hollow.
Now, it’s the branches that give it strength…
That’s why this tree has stood tall for hundreds of years.”

Isn’t that the story of family businesses, too?

The trunk (the founder) gives birth, builds the foundation, and serves its purpose.

Over time, the branches (the next generation) spread out, bring new life and keep the legacy alive.

Together, they make the tree majestic. Together, they make businesses timeless.
