India–Japan | Building Pathways for Shared Growth

As Shri Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, concludes his visit to Japan, the engagements across government, industry, employers, training partners and Indian professionals have reinforced one clear opportunity: building stronger pathways that connect Indian talent with the evolving workforce needs of Japan, while creating new avenues for both nations to grow together.

From strategic discussions with government leaders to engagements with Japanese companies, employers, training partners and Indian professionals, the visit brought together the different stakeholders needed to build this ecosystem. Discussions explored opportunities across the CareGiver as well as other emerging industries, with a focus on strengthening the alignment between quality Japanese training in India, Train the Trainer Programs, Expanding GCCs in India and workforce requirements in Japan, while also exploring opportunities to strengthen state–prefecture partnerships as an important channel for deeper cooperation.

A key focus was strengthening the foundations that make these pathways possible—from expanding Japanese language training through Skill India International Centres and developing domain-specific training infrastructure, including CareGiver and other industry-focused Domain Labs, to building greater awareness and advocacy in India around the diverse opportunities available in Japan. Engagements with employers and Indian professionals working in Japan also brought valuable perspectives on workplace requirements and the journey from training to opportunity.

The visit also saw strengthened institutional partnerships, including the renewal of agreements with Japanese partners, alongside interactions with Indian candidates trained through NSDC International and now working in Japan. These engagements brought the larger purpose of this visit to life: ensuring that skills developed in India are relevant to the needs of Japanese industry and can translate into meaningful opportunities for Indian talent.

Together, these efforts represent a broader, long-term approach to India–Japan cooperation—where skilled Indian talent can contribute to Japan’s workforce needs, Japanese industry can find trusted talent through stronger training pathways, and both countries can deepen their people-to-people and economic ties.

This journey is closely aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a new wave of India–Japan people-to-people exchanges, including the target of facilitating the movement of 500,000 people over five years, with 50,000 skilled Indian workers and potential talent moving to Japan. Realising this vision will require sustained collaboration across governments, industry, training institutions and talent—and visits such as these help turn that shared vision into practical pathways, stronger partnerships and opportunities that create value for both nations.

NSDC and SOMPO Care | Strengthening Pathways from Training to Opportunities

During his Japan visit, Shri Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, visited the SOMPO Care Trainer Center and met with SOMPO Care Senior Leadership, to explore stronger pathways for trained Indian CareGivers to access opportunities in Japan.

The engagement included the renewal of the Agreement between NSDC International and SOMPO Care, further strengthening the collaboration around training, Japanese language capabilities and opportunities for Indian CareGivers in Japan. The discussions also included setting up CareGiver Domain Labs in India, aimed at strengthening industry-aligned training and preparing candidates for opportunities in the sector.

The discussions also focused on strengthening the connection between quality training in India and workforce requirements in Japan’s CareGiver industry, with the aim of encouraging more Japanese companies to recognise and hire trained Indian CareGivers. The collaboration will also support advocacy and awareness in India about CareGiver opportunities in Japan, helping more aspiring candidates understand the career pathways available to them.

The visit to the SOMPO Caregiver Training Center provided a closer look at the training and workplace readiness required for candidates to build successful careers in Japan. Such industry engagement helps ensure that learners in India are equipped with the skills and language capabilities that employers value.

Together, these efforts contribute to building a stronger ecosystem where training providers, employers and industry come together to create clearer pathways for Indian learners—from developing job-ready capabilities in India to securing meaningful opportunities in Japan.

NSDC and Fourth Valley Concierge Corporation | From Training to Careers in Japan

As part of his engagements during his visit to Japan, Shri Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, met with Fourth Valley Concierge Corporation to discuss opportunities for Indian talent in Japan, while also spending time with NSDCI-trained candidates working at a premium hotel in Tokyo.

The lunch interaction at the hotel offered a particularly personal moment, as Shri Arunkumar Pillai met the candidates at their workplace and heard directly about their experiences of working and building their careers in Japan. Seeing candidates who had trained in India now applying their skills in a global workplace brought the journey from learning to employment to life.

The interaction also provided an opportunity to understand the candidates’ experiences with skills and Japanese language training, the transition into the workplace and the opportunities that opened up for them in Japan. Their journeys reinforce the importance of creating accessible, industry-relevant training and language pathways for aspiring candidates in India.

The engagement with Fourth Valley further highlighted opportunities to strengthen these pathways and connect trained Indian talent with employers and industries in Japan, creating greater opportunities for learners to translate their skills into meaningful careers.

The longstanding India–Japan partnership in skills and human-resource exchange continues to create new opportunities for Indian talent, with Shri Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, engaging with Zenken Corporation to explore avenues for expanding opportunities across Japanese industries.

NSDC and Zenken Corporation | Strengthening Ties, Creating Pathways

Beyond the business discussions and partnerships during his visit to Japan, Shri Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, also focused on Indian talent at the workplace, gaining first-hand insights into their experiences and the opportunities they are building for themselves in Japan.

During the visit, Shri Arunkumar Pillai visited a caregiver facility, with the engagement arranged and facilitated by Zenken Corporation, and interacted with Indian candidates trained through NSDCI who are currently working there, understanding their experiences of working and building their careers in Japan.

Zenken Corporation also organised and facilitated an interaction bringing together NSDCI-trained Indian candidates, their employers, Japanese companies and business associations with Shri Arunkumar Pillai. The discussion provided an opportunity to hear directly from candidates and employers while understanding emerging workforce requirements and opportunities for Indian talent across industries in Japan. NSDC appreciates Zenken’s efforts in organising these engagements and facilitating meaningful interactions on the ground.

Continuing NSDC’s efforts to strengthen India–Japan talent opportunities, Shri Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, engaged with ONODERA USER RUN, a leading Japanese education, recruitment and foreign-worker support organisation, to explore new pathways for Indian talent to access opportunities in Japan.

Building on the long-standing partnership between NSDC and ONODERA USER RUN, the engagement culminated in the renewal of the Agreement between NSDC International and ONODERA USER RUN, further strengthening the framework for collaboration across training, Japanese language development, talent opportunities and industry linkages.

As part of the partnership, discussions focused on establishing the ONODERA Blooming Academy across Skill India International Centres and NSDC International Academy in India, creating stronger avenues for aspiring candidates to develop the skills and language capabilities needed for careers in Japan.

The two organisations will also work towards bringing native Japanese language teachers to India, strengthening the quality of Japanese language training and better preparing candidates for the workplace and life in Japan.
