Strengthening India’s Workforce Through Apprenticeship

The Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC), with the support of NSDC, is hosting an Apprenticeship Awareness & Compliance Workshop focused on the Apprentices Act, 1961 and the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS).

The workshop will enhance industry awareness of apprenticeship regulations, provide practical guidance on PM-NAPS registration, contract generation and reimbursement mechanisms, and encourage wider adoption of apprenticeships across the logistics sector.

The session will also bring together industry stakeholders and the skill development ecosystem to foster meaningful engagement and strengthen apprenticeship-based workforce development.

At the Kaushal Manthan - Regional Conference of Skill Ministers in Kolkata, the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) exchanged an MoU to support international skilling for youth from the OBC community.

The initiative introduces an innovative blended financing model involving the listing of Zero Coupon Zero Principal instrument on the Social Stock Exchange and Outcome-Based Funding through bilateral Social Impact Bond Agreement between NSDC (Risk Investor) and MP Government (Outcome Funder), creating a new approach to supporting skilling outcomes and sustainable impact.

Through the programme, youth from Madhya Pradesh will be trained in foreign languages and prepared for international opportunities in Japan and Germany, particularly across high-demand sectors such as caregiving, hospitality, construction, manufacturing and allied industries.

A significant step towards enabling international skilling and expanding global opportunities for the youth of Madhya Pradesh.

AI is not simply changing jobs — it is re-specifying the work within them.

At the 17th FICCI Global Skills Summit 2026, Mr Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, NSDC, highlighted how NSDC–SSC is examining AI’s impact across sectors through a Six-Layer Framework — moving beyond broad assumptions about “AI and jobs” to understand where and how change is actually taking place.

The framework looks at:

01 | Incidence — Where does AI land?
02 | Transmission — How does it translate into changes in work?
03 | Velocity — How quickly will adoption happen?
04 | Demand Test — Is the resulting skill trainable, portable and payable?
05 | Position — Where should NSDC–SSC lead or support?
06 | Instrument — How should the response be financed and measured?

This approach recognises that AI’s impact will not be uniform across sectors — and that India’s skilling response must be grounded in evidence, demand and the realities of how work is changing.

As AI reshapes work at unprecedented speed, the priority is to build a skilling system that can understand the change, anticipate it and respond at pace.
