This channel makes long-form documentaries about history, empire, coups, occupation, politics, and how they impact people on the ground. The videos sometimes take months. I dig through old documents, declassified files, read many books and articles and papers, cross-check numbers, build the maps, edit the videos and create a source document that I hope is useful for those interested. It is slow on purpose because rushing this might do the people I'm covering (and you) a disservice.

But in order for that to be possible the channel needs to remain sustainable. I have always relied on ad revenue and sponsorships up until now, never making a video or public announcement asking for support. (A Patreon has existed but is only pointed to in the description)

But now ad revenues for long-form video are down as short-form and rapidly produced slop have come to dominate most of the platform. This does not mean the channel is in massive financial distress. However it places pressure to try and abandon many things that make the channel what it is. I don't want to lower the quality you expect and I don't want to get involved in chasing trends or slop. I want to keep making documentaries you find useful.

I have been putting asking for support from viewers for well over a year since it makes me deeply uncomfortable.

So I am asking you the viewers, those who care about what this channel does, to help support it if you can. I have added some perks and benefits to channel memberships for those of you who can support.

I'll still bring my own obsessions to the table, there are stories I'm going to cover no matter what, but the shortlist goes to you, and the votes decide what moves to the top of the pile.

I have tried to keep the major benefits to the lower tiers because I do not want to lock anybody out. If you can pay more it is appreciated, but I also understand I have a global audience earning very different wages in very different currencies and circumstances.
