🫣 cornerstones, be honest… have you ever been in a parasocial relationship with an idol or celebrity? If so, when did you realize you were getting a little too invested, and/or what helped you keep a healthy boundary?

cornerstones... i (unfortunately) have some not so great news...

i woke up this morning to a monetization claim on the katseye video today for "animal" 😭 AND THEY'RE TAKING ALL THE MONEY 😭😭😭

turns out singing my OWN a cappella cover of a song doesn't protect from copyright claims... the melody and lyrics themselves are still owned by publishers, separate from the actual recording.

to resolve the claim, i just ended up muting two sections to keep the video monetized (rip the outro and ~1 min of me singing and that whistle note; you'll just get silence there now lol). youtube wouldn't even let me just mute my singing and keep my talking in those sections. thankfully, it's not a strike and my channel's totally fine, just... the music industry doing music industry things.

kind of WILD (haha, get it? 🤭) because y'all have been SO SWEET about my singing in the comments, which i appreciate SO SO SO much. thank you 🥹🥰

🧩 This is a very belated THANK YOU, Cornerstones!!! (and my first ever community post!!!)🧩

I just realized I never properly celebrated this… Over 6,000 of you here (which is actually insane, thank you all so much!). Over 100 shorts. Over 3 million views. And now FOUR longform videos!

When I first started Charnice’s Corner a few months ago, I honestly thought I was going to make mostly food content. I never expected so many of you to care about my deep dives, my kpop analysis, or my connections between culture, science, and everything in between. But somehow, together, we built this cozy corner of the internet where all of those things can exist in the same place. 🧩✨

I’m so grateful for this little community we’re building. Thank you for being patient with me while I balance life, and thank you for every comment, like, share, and conversation that has helped @charnicescorner grow. I read every comment (even when I’m a little slow to respond!), so please keep the discussions going!

The past few months have been a little wild (not katseye wild though lol). Between teaching full-time, finishing grad school, and creating videos whenever I can, life has been BUSY! 😅

But there have also been some really special moments. This week, I got to see BTS live… and it was actually my first ever kpop concert! 💜

For someone who has spent so much time researching, analyzing, and talking about kpop, getting to experience that collective energy in the crowd for myself was honestly unforgettable. I even bought a lightstick (army bomb!) and got my first ever photocard as a freebie! :)

And honestly, being in that arirang crowd reinforced why I love making these videos. Behind every chart, controversy, performance, and trend are real people connecting through something they love (...or love to hate! I know not everyone loves kpop).

I'm a certified yapper (as you probably have realized by now), and I’m working very hard to bring you more content more consistently. More episodes of kpop's queer lineage are also on the way! And I have so many exciting shortform and longform videos planned and in progress, so stay tuned for more!
