Hey all, the news is that the 910 clan have split up and the forever teens 910jr and 909jr are on their own now. They had the best teacher in 910 so they will be just fine. It will be interesting to see if the girls fish together like their cousins 428 and 429. These screen shots are taken from a Katmai FB group. Here, 910jr is pictured alone.

The bears are back! These are screen shots of some of our most seen bears on the cams, including the 910s, still together. I predicted last summer the girls might stick with 910 for one more season, since 910jr is only 3.5 years old now.
Bears reported back at the park are 901 (single), 32, the 910s and 909 with cubbies. 909 initially had three cubbies but most recently was seen with two. Credit to the Katmai group and Ranger Tammy on Facebook for these pics.

Finally it is the weekend! I had much of the week off but did have to work yesterday so I’m feeling like I need another week off soon and of COURSE I will spend it watching bears. Ever seen a bunch of bears in a BEARNGA line? We might know it as a conga line, but for bears, it’s got its own name. This is from a couple of weeks back, everybody was in line for fish! 27 out of the water with his ombré back fur because it’s the rage for all the younger boy bears these days.

Hi, all, I think we are all heartbroken by the news of Grazer’s little Cubbie. I think we suspected it was probably not alive given it had not been seen since Tuesday. I think Grazer could hear the Cubbie but couldn’t find it - as we had witnessed in videos with her searching far and wide and by how distracted she was when he washed down the falls. I hope it didn’t suffer too much, and being one of only two COY at the falls this year, we are at about the 50% survival rate of new cubs.
Please take care of yourself. I’ve been away at a work conference working 17 hour days and I’m exhausted. The news today really made me sad. I’ll be back online and more engaged on Sunday evening. Until then, know this is a safe space to talk. Sending you love and light.

Well, the weekend is winding down and I hope most of you have some self-care planned this week, even if it is 15 minutes of dancing to a favorite song (my executive coach’s recommendation), a walk in the sunshine or a new shade of lipstick (if you like lipstick) or something else to be good to yourself. I’m trying to be optimistic like the rest of you and only time will tell how well little 128 cubbie does in the next few days. Regular updates are on the explore.org chat page and there are also reports from other rangers on site at Katmai National Park who have been able to observe the 128 family.
If you need a break from the brown bear cams, explore.org has plenty of other nature cams or you can try a private property cam such as Woodlands Critter Quest, Critter Vision or even some cat TV cams that show birds and squirrels. Tiny Kittens is a kitty rescue based in British Columbia, Canada that has 24/7 kitten cams with compelling backstories.
As I’ve mentioned, this is a safe space to express your feelings. We watch the bear cams and as humans, it’s still heartbreaking when we see bear behavior that results in injury or worse to a cub or another bear. Your grief is valid and it’s okay to feel sad or confused or conflicted or frustrated.
I’m popping in a screenshot of a very zen 747 from a video I edited of him last week. He was a sight for sore eyes tonight.
