"There is pride in each age…" — A Timely Truth

Yes, there is pride in every season of life—youth and old age alike. But many people don’t realize that this pride is not only harmful to others, but deeply destructive to one’s own relationship with the Lord.

Let’s break it down:

🧒🏽 Pride in Youth: “We Know Better”

"Foolish youngsters listen not to the old ones…"

Young people today are quick to dismiss the wisdom of the elderly. You often hear:

“They don’t understand us…”
“That was their generation; this is ours…”
“We need new methods, new voices, new solutions…”

And often, they reject wisdom simply because it sounds like correction or tradition. They then gather among themselves, listening only to voices that look, sound, and think like them. But this is dangerous and shows spiritual immaturity.

🔹 Scriptural Response:
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”
— Proverbs 12:15

“Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”
— Proverbs 23:22

“Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another…”
— 1 Peter 5:5

Young people are not called to be rebellious innovators, but teachable followers until God raises them in due season.

👴🏽 Pride in Old Age: “I Know Enough”

“The old ones believe they cannot be advised by those younger…”

Here lies another form of pride. Some elders assume that their age alone equals wisdom, and that no younger person has anything valuable to offer them. They will say things like:

“What can a child teach me?”
“I've lived long enough—I know what I’m doing…”
“They’re too young to understand…”

This is age-based arrogance, and it often makes older people unteachable, even when the Lord might be speaking through a younger person.

🔹 Scriptural Response:
“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
— 1 Timothy 4:12

Paul is speaking to Timothy—a young man leading a congregation of elders. God can and does speak through the young when He chooses.

“Out of the mouths of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength…”
— Psalm 8:2

Also, Job—an older man—acknowledged:

“It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.”
— Job 32:9

This is humility.

🧩 The Fulfillment of the Adage: “What Resembles, Assembles”
This saying is often fulfilled in both generations:

Young people gather around other young, prideful, and directionless voices.
Older people surround themselves with peers who reinforce their pride and resist correction.
This leads to division, stagnation, and disobedience. Neither side grows, and both suffer loss of truth and guidance.

⚖️ What Does God Really Want?

God wants mutual respect, humility, and teachability.

🔹 From the Young:
“My son, keep your father's command and do not forsake your mother's teaching… When you walk, they will guide you.”
— Proverbs 6:20-22

“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth…”
— Ecclesiastes 12:1

🔹 From the Old:
“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”
— Job 12:12

Yes—but only if the aged stay humble and open to correction.

“Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith…”
— Titus 2:2

Even in old age, there's a call to be taught and to live by example.

🙏🏽 A Call to Humility

Whether young or old, you must deal with your own pride for the sake of your spiritual walk. God resists the proud—at any age—but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).

Age does not make you right.
Youth does not make you wrong.
Humility makes you wise.

Advice;

* To the young:
Humble yourself and listen. God often wraps wisdom in old packages.
Learn from those who’ve walked where you’re walking.

* To the old:
Don’t close your ears. God sometimes speaks through youth—He even used a child named Samuel to call out Eli.

*To everyone:
Ask God daily to expose the hidden pride in your season of life.
Growth in Christ requires continual surrender.

A Culture of Rebellion Against God’s Design

Ironically, in the age of supposed enlightenment, there is a troubling message that the media and modern culture seem to promote—subtle yet aggressive—one that encourages division, confusion, and ultimately rebellion against God's original design for humanity.

We are witnessing a growing trend where people are being conditioned to turn against one another, to harbor hatred and suspicion rather than love and unity. Women, for instance, are being taught—whether overtly or subliminally—to hate themselves: their natural skin tone, their body shapes, their feminine roles. They are pressured to fit into impossible worldly standards, altering themselves to reflect an artificial identity rather than embracing who God fearfully and wonderfully created them to be.

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
— Psalm 139:14 (NKJV)

Men, too, are not spared. Society increasingly pushes men to abandon the strength, courage, and leadership instilled in them by their Creator. They are told to blur the lines of masculinity, often pressured into adopting distorted forms of self-expression that contradict God’s intention. What we see is not simply fashion or progress, but a subtle rebellion—a reshaping of God's image for man and woman under the guise of self-care and self-love.

But the Word of God makes it clear: God does not make mistakes. He created both male and female with divine purpose and intentionality.

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
— Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)

How then can one truly thank God for who He made them to be if they have rejected that identity, reshaping themselves into what God never intended? Is it not a form of hypocrisy to say, "Thank You, Lord, for who I am," after one has denied or altered the very essence of God's handiwork?

“Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’”
— Isaiah 45:9 (NKJV)

“Does not the potter have power over the clay…?”
— Romans 9:21 (NKJV)

When we reject our God-given identity, we are not merely making a stylistic choice—we are aligning ourselves with a spirit of rebellion. And the enemy of our souls, Satan, has always sought to distort what God has declared “good” from the beginning.

“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace...”
— 1 Corinthians 14:33 (NKJV)

“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”
— 2 Corinthians 11:14 (NKJV)

A Call to Return
This is a call to return—to recognize and celebrate the divine wisdom in how God created each of us. True self-love begins with loving what God has made, not modifying it to meet a broken world’s standards. It begins with gratitude, obedience, and reverence for the Creator.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
— Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

Advice:
In this age of digital manipulation, false standards, and moral confusion, it is vital for believers to:

Anchor their identity in Christ and Scripture, not in social media trends or societal pressures.
Teach the next generation to appreciate their God-given beauty and design.
Stand firm in the truth without shame, even when culture calls good “evil” and evil “good” (Isaiah 5:20).
May we never forget who made us—and may we live in a way that honors His craftsmanship.
