The Buzzard Family Escapades

Just a reminder for those that buy my books on Amazon, which is basically the only place they are currently available. Amazon handles the sale/order, print on demand & shipping. I don't have any control of any part of that & I don't know who orders them. I only see the number of orders. They keep a large chuck of the sales, so they own most of the process. If there is ever any issue with an order, digital or physical, you'd have to them. After nearly a thousand sales, they have been pretty consistent.

While explaining or educating others at their level may be okay, generally speaking, don't dumb yourself down or lessen yourself for others to feel better or to fit in. #dumbdown #fitin #dontdumbdown #shine

Due to crazy price increases, I have sunset all my websites over the last 5 months, some I had for 15 years. I decided to just update my WordPress site I've also had for 15 years. All the info from my previous websites can be found there. My main website redirects there now.

The Buzzard Family Escapades

I see so much negatively in the book world on social media, from readers, writers, editors, artists & more. It can feel demoralizing. As a writer, just write a story that feels right. If you have a publisher insisting on so many words, okay, but sticking with a certain word count can bloat a book. #books #writer #wordcount

The journey from writing a book to publishing isn't easy and can be time-consuming. Writing is only the first step. Don't get lost along the journey through frustration. The result will be something to be proud of. #writing #publishing #book #edit #journey

The Buzzard Family Escapades

JD Buzzard

A little about me from a writer standpoint.

I have been jotting down notes to ideas since the late 1990’s. Yep, I am getting up there in age.
Like anything, the more you practice, the better you get. Looking at my handwritten notes from the late nineties and early parts of this century, it’s embarrassing in a lot of cases at how poorly I wrote. Over the years I believe that each story has helped me get a bit better, learning what works, what doesn’t, how to improve my grammar, characters, action and relatability of the story for those who may read it. I am certainly not a literary genius, but as with everything, I work to continually better myself.

Between 1999 & 2001, I wrote rough drafts and outlines for two of my main book series, The Elite Saga & Parallel Worlds Saga. Eight books for The Elite Saga, nine for the Parallel Worlds Saga & an outline for my Lights Within Saga. I also wrote several short stories, starting by handwriting in a notebook before moving to a computer. My right middle finger still bears the mark of writing all those notes.

In 2003, I worked on getting my first book, The Elite, published. Not finding or being offered any decent deals, I gave up before publishing with Lulu in 2011. I soon archived that novel and split it into three novels, all three of which are now published. The fourth book took a while to get published, even though I had 80% to 90% of it completed in 2014, finally getting it published in 2024. I am working on the fifth book now based on my notes from 2000/2001.
For the better part of the last twenty years, I have only had one day off, which was spent with my wife and children. In addition, workdays were upward to twelve hours. After publishing my second book in The Elite Saga, time and energy faded, which delayed further books, even though I had some nearly complete and others outlined/drafted.

In addition to writing, I tend to design/create the book covers myself, which can sometimes take months, certainly weeks. The first book in The Elite Saga, Gen3: Origin of the Elite, was completed by a co-worker.

The last five plus years, I have had more free time, as I remained abroad working and supporting my family, while my wife and kids went home for better educational opportunities. While this time has been challenging, I have taken the opportunity to finish my partially completed books, as well as create some business focused books from my thirty-five years of working, over half of which has been in leadership roles.

My two youngest children wanted me to write some books for them, so I started a children’s book series, Children’s Topics of Quality, where I bring topics that I have learned about over the years and teach about online and at work through various means. I geared them toward children’s understanding. That said, I have had adults say they enjoy them too.

I published the series in a relatively short amount of time to get them out for folks to read, especially kids.

Having a love of history and when I was young, science, I also decided to write another children’s book series focusing on both. There is still a lot that people don’t know, so I take any opportunity to write about a subject I love that can help educate people in a fun way.

All my children’s books passed through my kids. They even helped me with some words they thought would be better suited for them and others their age.

As with most things I do in life, I work ahead as much as possible. I have some books, short stories, and novels scheduled for 2026 & and 2027, and I am writing each day. Over the last few years, I have averaged around ten pages a day, which in of itself is tiring after a long day of work.

I am writing because I enjoy it, always have. While it has always been my desire and dream to write full time, I learned over twenty years ago that it would not be feasible. Whether people buy my books or not, I will keep writing while I can. I still have a lot of drafts to finish that I wrote over twenty years ago, ideas to get on paper that are floating around in my head and worlds to build.

Not everyone will enjoy what I write, as we each have our own opinions and thoughts. That is life. No one can satisfy everyone.

This is a challenging time we live in, with uncertain times, and the advent of technology being force fed to the populace, dangerously close to eliminating or taking over the free will, creativity, artistry and beauty that we have as humans. We must each do our part to ensure that we support each other, our lives, our art, our imagination as readers, writers, artists, musicians, and more.

You are free to join me on the journey by reading my books or my posts across social media.
