Home of Wren is a gentle art channel for beginners, busy artists and creatives, focused on sketchbooks, slow art, and returning to creativity in a meaningful, sustainable way.

I'm Wren, a self-taught artist. Join me in my home art studio where I share a slower more mindful approach to art and creativity--one that fits into real life. Through my sketchbook practice, art journaling, watercolor and simple creative routines, I explore how art can become a steady, nourishing part of your days rather than another thing on your to-do list.

This channel is for you if you feel creatively called but overwhelmed, returning to art, balancing creativity with a busy life and looking for a slower, more grounding way to create. Inspired by nature, seasons and the quiet rhythms of everyday life, my work is rooted in the belief that art doesn't have to be polished or productive to be meaningful. It's about coming home to your creativity--slowly, honestly and in your own time.

xo, Wren

Today in the Studio 🌿🎨

Today isn't about an outcome or finishing anything. It's about gentle exploration and allowing more play into my art practice.

Because so much of life asks us to be sure. To be decisive. To have answers.

By exploring and allowing play into my process, I'm giving myself permission to not know in this moment. To soften the grip of certainty. To remember that art can be a place where questions are welcome and curiosity is enough.

I'm spending time with my art materials...testing...layering and noticing how they move and respond. There's something so grounding about slowing down and following the direction of my curiosity.

These kinds of days remind me that art doesn't always need a plan. Sometimes the most meaningful work begins with play, with experimentation, with paint on your hands and messy pages...with simply showing up and seeing what unfolds.

I'm Wren in case you are new here...Welcome. I love to share my journey as an artist. βœ¨πŸŒ™

The Season for Slow Art 🌿

So much of life asks us to hurry. To move faster. To keep up. To produce, respond, achieve. Even our creativity isn't spared--we feel the quiet pressure to make more, finish sooner, improve quickly. To turn art into something efficient instead of something felt.

And over time... that urgency seeps into our hearts, our mind, our hands.

We rush through sketches.
We judge the page too quickly.
We abandon our creative ideas before they've had time to breathe.

But... slow art asks us to step out of that current.

It invites us to notice how deeply the culture of urgency has shaped the way we create--and to gently choose another way. A softer way. One where art unfolds alongside us, not on demand.

Slow art isn't about doing less, rather it's about inviting the permission to feel again. To reconnect with our natural creative selves. To connect with your art materials and with the quiet voice that doesn't speak when everything is rushed.

To make art not for outcome, but for the experience of being fully here. This is where art becomes grounding...Healing. A quiet refuge in the midst of busy days.

I wrote more about this in my latest blog post...around slow art, urgency and how choosing stillness in our creative practice is an act of care. If you've been feeling the weight if hurry in your art, I hope this space provides a place to rest.

I'm Wren, in case you are new here, welcome. I love to talk about the journey of being an artist. 🀎✨

The Art of Imperfection 🧡🌿

The art journey begins wholeheartedly. With eagerness and a desire to create. With fresh pages and colors. With the hope that what we carry inside will spill out beautifully.

And then... imperfection seeps in.
The lines wobble.
The colors bleed.
The pages feel scattered, and every mark you make seems uneven.
What emerges onto the page doesn't quiet look like the image you held in your mind. It's not perfect.

And yet... this is where art quietly does its work.

Through the process of making, we begin to connect the dots of our own story. Each mark, even the messy ones, holds a piece of who we are. Each imperfect piece becomes a mirror, reminding us of the artist we thought we had lost.

Art has a way of gathering all the scattered parts of us... the pieces we once thought didn't fit, the ones we labeled as "not good enough" -- and stitching them back together. In creating, we begin to see that those fragments were never truly broken, just waiting for us to embrace the connection of our own becoming.

I wrote a blog post recently about finding wholeness and meaning through the imperfect process of creating. πŸŒ™

Art in the In-Between πŸŒΏπŸŒ™

Hey, I'm Wren and I'm an artist. 🎨

Days blur between tasks and timelines, and so often our tender artistic selves--the still, longing part of us that just wants to create--gets pushed to the side.

I know how it feels to go through the days pouring into everything else but your art. To carry the ache of wanting to create, to let your inner artist breathe, but never quite finding the right moment.

I know how it feels to wait . . . for the right time, the open day, the clearing of the schedule that rarely ever comes.

But. . . what if we didn't wait? What if we made art within life, not outside it?

Art Journaling has become that for me--a tranquil moment. Unrushed. A soft blending of my inner world with my art tools and the page. A gentle space that doesn't demand my performance or perfection . . . just my artistic presence. I meet the pages just as I am, most times after a long day with tired eyes and shaky hands.

Yet still...it's become a practice of soul tending. A way to honor the part of me that longs to make art, even when the hours are full.

In my latest blog post, I'm sharing thoughts on how to begin your own art journal practice--not as another thing to get right but as a form of self-care. A way to say, "I'm still here, I'm still creating." Even if it's just for a few moments in the in-between. ✨

Creating Space to Make Art ✨🌿

Hey, I'm Wren and I'm an Artist 🎨

Life is full.

The days rush in, one after another...work, routines, errands, noise.... it's a lot to hold. In the midst of it all it can become so difficult to find time for art. But somewhere in the quiet corners of your mind, the longing to create still lives. Gently humming beneath the surface. But when you finally find the time to sit and reach out for your art... the environment feels anything but inspiring.

The table is cluttered...the art supplies are scattered...the energy feels.... off. And so, we tell ourselves we'll do it later. We'll tend to our art later.

But the truth is--when your art space doesn't support your artistic flow, it's even harder to show up for your art. It becomes much more of a barrier between you and the practice you long for.

This July 4th weekend, if you have a bit of time off, what if you gave a portion of it back to your creativity--not with the pressure to produce, but by tending to the space that holds your practice?

Organizing your home art studio can become a grounding ritual. A way of saying: My Art Matters. I'm coming home to this. And when your art space is inviting, even the smallest window of time can feel beautiful and sacred.

I wrote a blog post about how to set up your home art studio to support your artistic flow. It's filled with simple, thoughtful ideas to help your space feel more nurturing and intentional--because your art deserves that much care. πŸ¦‹

A Home Longing to Feel More Like You πŸŒ™

Your home should reflect who you are--not just what's trending. πŸ’«

It should feel like a living, breathing collection of what you love. The gentle moments. The pieces that stop you mid-scroll. The art that makes you feel something--long after you've seen it.

Mass-produced art can't hold that kind of presence. ✨

In Wonder was a one-of-a kind original painting that sold quickly. But some on you reached out to me to say how much you wanted it in your space. So, I've created a fine art print of this piece... not mass-produced, not generic--but made with intention. Printed on archival paper, soft and textured, meant to feel as close to the original as possible.

When you bring work like this into your space, you're not just decorating--you're choosing to make your home more personal, thoughtfully considered and more like you. 🀎🌿

On Being Open to Inspiration βœ¨πŸ’«

Hey, I'm Wren and I'm an artist 🎨

Inspiration is gentle...quiet. It doesn't knock loudly or demand your attention. It whispers to you. Brushing past like the wind, sometimes barely noticeable... unless you're open.

Inspiration doesn't respond to force. It's not interested in the push and pull, in the tension of power struggles or the need to control. It won't arrive on command and resists urgency. Instead, it seeks out softness--an open hand, a listening heart, a quiet space to land.

Inspiration visits those who are ready for it. Those who make space for it. And if we're not open--to distracted, too rushed--it quietly moves along, searching for another vessel to pour itself into.

But when we are ready. When we pick up a pencil, the paintbrush, the courage...Inspiration shows up...always. It stays and works with us.

So much of an artist's journey isn't about chasing inspiration but creating the conditions where it can find you. I wrote more about this in my latest blog post. If you need a gentle reminder that inspiration is still near, waiting for your tender courage. 🀎

Art Holds What Words Cannot πŸ’«πŸŒ™

Being an artist means feeling everything so deeply.

This passage from The Creative Act speaks to that ache--the beauty and the confusion we carry as artists when we see and feel things that others may not. When the world moves quickly past something that stops us in our tracks, we can begin to wonder if we're the only ones who feel this way.

But you're not alone...

Art gives us a place to hold these big feelings. It lets us speak when we feel misunderstood and connect when words fall short. If you've ever felt like your heart holds so much, remember it's not a flaw---it's your gift. Your sensitive artistic lens is a light in the dark. A soothing balm in the chaos.

Let your art hold what others don't see. Allow it to speak what you feel. That's the beauty of being an artist.

Where Art Meets You Softly πŸŽ¨πŸŒ™

Hey, I'm Wren and I'm an artist. ✨

An art journey begins with a quiet longing--to make something meaningful, to express ourselves, to create beauty. But somewhere along the way, perfectionism creeps in. We start to question what "good art" even means. We compare. We hesitate. We wait for the perfect idea, the perfect time, the perfect outcome.

But what if good art simply meant honest art? Art that reflects your personal vision, your curiosity, your artistic intention. What if it was less about the result and more about the relationship you build with your art practice?

I recently made a video about building a sketchbook practice that reflects the joys and wonder of being an artist. Today on my blog I am continuing the conversation on cultivating a daily art practice that you truly love. One that lets go of the pressure of perfectionism and makes room for play and purpose. Because your art practice should feel like a gentle place you want to return to again and again--not just another task to optimize.

Your art doesn't have to be perfect to be powerful....it just needs your presence. Beautifully Imperfect. πŸ¦‹

An Invitation to Create ✨🎨

Life gets busy. We juggle responsibilities, routines, work, and the ever-growing to-do lists. Amid the busyness, our artistic goals--the ones that mean so much to us--can sometimes get pushed aside. But even when life gets busy--and it so often does--we can still choose to make space for our art.

It may not always look like we imagined. The quiet, uninterrupted hours of making art might not be possible every day. But that doesn't mean your art practice has to fade. Sometimes, the most meaningful creativity happens in the in-between moments, a quick sketch in a waiting room, a bit of color added to a sketchbook page during a lunch break.

Art can live outside the studio. It can remain alongside you as a subtle invitation to return to yourself, to your art, again... and again. βœ¨πŸŒ™

I wrote a blog post about how to build a simple, travel-friendly art kit to help you stay connected to your creativity, even through the fullness of life. If you've been looking for a way to gently weave art into your days, this might be the nudge you need.

I'm Wren...in case you are new here...welcome. I love to talk about the journey of being an artist.
