Did you know that hummingbirds get their name from the soft humming sound their wings make as they beat? Their wings flap so fast that the sound is audible to both humans and other animals. They can hover in mid-air with incredible wing-flapping speeds, from about 1️⃣2️⃣ beats per second in the largest species (Patagona gigas) to 99 beats per second in the smallest ones!
