The Nottoway Plantation, the biggest in Louisiana and one of the biggest antebellum in the South, the home of a massive sugar operation constructed by slave labor from 1857 to 1859, has burned nearly to the ground. Black Americans all over the country today rejoice that the souls of 155 slaves who endured forced labor under the mastery of John Hamden Randolph can finally enter their rest. Have you ever visited a slave plantation, and if you were brave enough, what was it like?
