At what point does collecting whiskey become more about owning the bottle than enjoying what’s inside it?
We hunt allocated bottles. We chase age statements. We chase High Proof! We celebrate finding something at MSRP. We talk about secondary value, rarity, discontinued releases, and bottles that might someday be worth hundreds—or thousands.
But then we put them on the shelf…and sometimes never open them.
So here’s my question:
If you own an incredible bottle but never open it, did you really get to experience it?
I’m starting to believe the greatest value in a whiskey collection isn’t what someone would pay for it someday. It’s the memories created when you finally break that seal, pour a glass, and share it with someone who matters.
