Would you believe someone if they told you they once beat a Grand Slam champion? Probably not.
But if you knew it happened before the fame – when both players were still juniors – suddenly the story lands.
And that’s exactly what happened to Jamie Friedland, who – at age 10 – played (and won against) an 8-year-old Maria Sharapova long before she became Maria Sharapova.
🎧 In this week’s episode, Jamie – now a Sustainability Analyst at AXA Investment Managers – joins me to talk about a very different arena:
- how to bring clarity back to sustainable investing
- what actually counts as ESG
- how AXA evaluates green bonds to separate real progress from clever marketing… and much, much more.

How do you actually know when a “green bond” is genuinely green – and not just a marketing label?
Find out in this week’s episode, where I talk with Jamie Friedland of AXA Investment Managers about:
💎 how they evaluate green bonds
💎 why nearly 30% of issuances don’t make the cut
💎 how they think about sustainability across fixed income more broadly – from issuer ambition to reporting quality to client expectations.
💎 and why AXA excludes nuclear from its green bond strategies (even though it invests in it elsewhere)

What happens when economics stops asking what’s right – and only asks what’s efficient?
We end up with a system that “works” in theory, even if most people lose out in practice.
But can we rebuild models that actually serve society?
🎧 Find out in this week’s episode, where I talk with Laura Segafredo, Chief Growth Officer at NatureAlpha. Laura explains how economics drifted away from moral judgment, why that matters for climate and investment decisions, and what it will take to bring ethics back into finance: 👉https://youtu.be/4BPoQ820O0s

SRI360 Podcast
My guest today is Jamie Friedland – a former U.S. Treasury trader who now works in sustainability at AXA Investment Managers, one of the largest global asset managers integrating ESG across public markets.
Jamie’s path started in competitive tennis, carried him into proprietary trading in Chicago and New York. But he began to wonder whether the markets were allocating capital in ways that aligned with real-world needs. That question pulled him into sustainability – first through hands-on work with mission-driven ventures, then through an MBA focused on impact.
Today at AXA IM (now part of the broader BNP Paribas platform), Jamie helps integrate ESG across equities, fixed income, alternatives, and infrastructure – using a mix of internal scoring frameworks, engagement, and data to evaluate companies across the full investable universe, including segments where traditional ESG data is limited.
🎧 In this episode, Jamie talks about what real ESG integration looks like inside a €1.5+ trillion platform, how green bonds are actually used across portfolios, when engagement works (and when it doesn’t), how better data is reshaping the next phase of sustainable investing, and a lot more.

Carbon pricing once looked like the answer to unlocking climate action for Laura Segafredo.
But after years in climate finance, she’s become disillusioned with the idea that markets alone can drive the transition we need.
🎧 In this week’s episode, Laura – now Chief Growth Officer at NatureAlpha – shares:
💎what she learned building climate products at BlackRock
💎why investors urgently need better nature-based risk data
💎 how economics lost its moral compass (and why we need to bring it back)

The biggest lie in sustainable investing has nothing to do with “impact.” It’s the idea that your money needs to be managed in complicated and expensive ways to perform.
Laura Segafredo, Chief Growth Officer at NatureAlpha, reveals why simple, low-cost approaches often beat the industry’s pricey promises.
🎧 Tune in for the full episode where Laura and I dig into nature-based data in investing – and why she believes we need moral language back in economics:

My guest this week is Laura Segafredo – Chief Growth Officer at NatureAlpha, and a systems thinker who’s spent the last twenty years connecting science, policy, and capital to build tools that help finance face the realities of the climate crisis.
Laura started her career in the power sector and later helped shape some of the most influential sustainability tools inside the world’s largest asset manager. At BlackRock, she worked across fixed income and iShares to build ESG frameworks, launch green bond products, and expand sustainable AUM from roughly $110 billion to more than $500 billion.
But she also saw the backlash up close and how hype without data set the field back.
Today, at NatureAlpha, she’s focused on a risk the markets have largely ignored: what happens when the natural systems companies rely on start to break down.
Their geospatial AI platform maps how companies depend on (and impact) ecosystems. It turns nature-related risk into financial insight, showing where breakdowns in ecosystems could become breakdowns in portfolios.
🎧 We cover a lot in this episode:
💎 the limits of carbon-only thinking
💎 what happens when nature shows up on the balance sheet
💎 what’s behind the ESG backlash
💎 what made Laura lose faith in market-based climate solutions
💎 what is the biggest lie the industry tells itself
💎 why the next big revolution in investing may be a moral one... and much, much more

Sustainability can’t drive change if no one understands it. Education – not more acronyms – is what will close the gap between intent and impact.
🎧 Hear from Nidhi Chadda, Founder and CEO of Enzo Advisors, as she explains why better education, data, and AI are key to turning ESG from confusion into real value creation:
