Hi everyone! Today at 8 PM KST, we’ll have a live class on the topic “-(으)면 vs. -ㄹ/을 때,” the two conjunctions many learners often get mixed up.

I was originally planning to go live at 1 PM today, but due to personal reasons, I’ll need to move it to this evening instead. The link is already open (you can find it in the Live section on my channel), so you can check what time it is in your own timezone.

See you guys soon! 같이 열심히 그리고 재미있게 공부합시다 🙌🏻✨

✨ Korean Idiom Time! 💡
"배보다 배꼽이 크다" literally means the belly button (배꼽) is bigger than the belly (배). Just from the phrase itself, you can probably guess the figurative meaning!

You can use it in situations like these:

1) 그 신발 사고 싶은데 배송비가 옷보다 두 배나 비싸요!
(배송비: shipping fee, 두 배: twice, two times)
→I want to buy those shoes, but the shipping fee is twice the actual product!

2) 2만원짜리 마우스를 고치는 데에 5만원이 들었어요.
(고치다: to fix)
→It cost 50,000 won to repair a 20,000 won mouse.

3) 포장박스가 선물보다 커요.
The packaging box is bigger than the gift.

Now, can you tell what this idiom means? 😁

Hey guys! Let’s learn another Korean idiom!^^

“귀가 얇다” literally means “to have thin ears” (귀👂🏻: ear/ 얇다: to be thin), but as an idiom, it means something different! 💭

What do you think it means? Try guessing from the picture or example sentences below 👇

e.g.
저는 귀가 얇아서 친구들의 설득에 쉽게 넘어가요.
(설득: persuasion / 넘어가다: to get swayed, to give in)

민주는 귀가 너무 얇고 우유부단해요.
(우유부단하다: to be indecisive, can’t make decisions)

여러분! The Korean idiomatic phrase "발이 넓다 (literally, to have a wide feet)," do you know what it means? If not, can you guess from the picture or the examples below?

e.g. 지윤이는 "발이 넓고" 인기가 많아요.

상호씨는 이 동네 사람들을 전부 알 정도로 "발이 넓어요."

(Long essay alert 🔔💛)
Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all been doing well. I realized I haven’t posted anything on YouTube for a few weeks, so some of you might have wondered how I’ve been doing.

As some of you already know, all five of my books are now officially published. The latest ones (the Canvas Workbooks) are currently only available in Korea, and the official physical copies are still on their way to Amazon. The books are shipped by sea from Korea to the Amazon hub in the US, so it usually takes about one to two months to be fully stocked. So for now, overseas readers can only get the e-book or the print-on-demand version on Amazon. But the other three books are all fully available in both physical and e-book formats.

I’m planning to upload the book introduction video tomorrow, where I show you inside the workbooks, how to use them, what kind of support & value the books will bring you, and a little bit of behind-the-scenes. If you’re interested in my books, I think that video will help a lot.

I actually finished filming and editing the full video, but right now, I’m putting together all the purchase links from different stores, both domestic and international. (Since all of my books were published through a publisher, the distribution is entirely their job. And they really did a great job distributing the books to so many places! There are even bookstores I’ve never heard of before haha.)

I’m also collecting FAQs about the books so I can put everything in a pinned comment, but there’s a lot to write, so I probably won’t finish it today. Once it’s ready, I’ll publish the video along with the comment.

To share a bit of backstory, it took two full years to complete these five books. When I first signed all five book contracts at once, I had no idea the book work process would take this long. There were moments when I wanted to quit writing altogether and just go back to focusing on videos. There were times I felt stuck and exhausted too. But the one thing I’m sure of is that I poured so much effort, care, and love into these books, always trying to see things from the learner’s perspective. And I really do believe they will bring a lot of value to your learning.

But after finishing the final books (Canvas), I went through a bit of a depression for about two weeks. I don’t think it’s helpful to over-analyze emotions, and I don’t think I can always analyze them accurately anyway, but I think the emptiness came from finishing something I had invested so much of myself into.

Some of you may already know this, but my dream ever since my early 20s was to become a writer. I wanted to write about philosophy and spirituality, but I realized I didn’t yet have the life experience to write about those things in a meaningful way. I’d been posting that kind of content on YouTube as well, but they didn't get many views and I barely made money from it. I eventually had to get a job at an English academy, because I was really struggling financially.

And that’s when the idea of creating Korean-learning content suddenly came to me, while teaching English to Korean students. From there, my whole Korean-teaching journey began, and I’ve now been known as a Korean content creator for about six years.

Videos are fun to make and they are great learning resources, but as an introvert, I naturally prefer quieter activities like reading and writing. So writing books feels natural to me, and I definitely want to keep doing it. But after finishing the books, for some reason I felt empty for a while, both emotionally and physically. I felt depressed, and some of the micro-aggressions in the comments bothered me more than usual. It’s not that those kinds of comments never affect me, but lately I’ve been taking them a bit more personally than I normally do.

So altogether, I just didn’t want to force myself to show up on social media. I know it’s not unusual for me to take short breaks from YouTube now and then, so I don’t feel like I must explain myself, but I still wanted to share a bit of my personal life with you.

I just accept it as part of my journey. Instead of analyzing everything or trying to teach myself some big lesson, I’m letting myself feel what I feel and staying open to whatever changes I might need going forward.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a little bit of what’s been going on. I’ll see you tomorrow in the book introduction video.

Thank you always. 💛

여러분 안녕하세요! How’s your week going so far? 🌻

This Sunday at 1 PM KST, we’ll continue our Korean Grammar for Absolute Beginners live series. Following last week’s class on 은/는, 이/가, and 을/를, this time we’ll be focusing on "verbs."

We’ll talk about the role verbs play in a sentence, how to conjugate them in present, past, and future tenses, and the difference between polite (존댓말) and casual (반말) sentence endings. You’ll also get to make sentences, do listening and dictation practice, and enjoy lots of hands-on learning time, so I hope many of you can join! 🙌🏻

Also, my new workbooks "Korean Grammar Canvas: Workbook for Beginners 1 & 2" have just been published 📚 They’re currently available in bookstores in Korea, but international availability on Amazon will follow a bit later. I’ll keep you guys updated on this :)

I’m planning to make a look-inside video soon, where I’ll walk you through my books and share some tips on how to get the most out of them. Hope you’ll enjoy it when it’s out 😊

For now, let’s focus on our Sunday class and have fun studying Korean verbs together! 일요일에 만나요! ✨

Korean with Miss Vicky 빅키쌤

Hi everyone! 👋 This Sunday (October 26th, 1pm KST), I’ll be doing a special grammar class for complete beginners.

We’ll start from the very basics — like simple sentence structure and the core particles 은/는, 이/가, 을/를, 의 — and I’ll explain them in a way that’s easy to understand even if you’re just getting started. We’ll also practice making simple sentences together.

This class will be perfect for you if you’re just starting Korean after learning Hangeul, or if you want to review the basics again. (I’ve noticed that the object marker 을/를 is something many learners still get confused about, so even if you’re at an upper level, this will be a great chance to strengthen and refine your understanding of some of the basics 📝✨)

For heads-up, I’ll be using my upcoming workbook for this class, which is currently in the publishing process. I’ve received a few questions about the release date of my workbooks, and due to the recent long holiday in Korea, the printing and publication schedule has been slightly delayed. So the official release will likely be in November. I’ll share an update again when it's confirmed. Thank you so much for your interest in my books 📗♥️

I'll see you in class 여러분~~! 일요일에 만나요 🙌🏻

Hi everyone! Tonight (Oct 17) at 8PM KST, I’ll be doing a final prep session for TOPIK1 before the test this Sunday. We’ll go over some of the trickier reading and listening questions from the later parts of the exam, focusing on high-frequency grammar and vocabulary that often appear in TOPIK.

Even if you’re not taking the test this Sunday, you’re still welcome to join if you’d like to sharpen your grammar and vocab skills through reading and listening practice. ^^

See you then!
