Marky 2 shot my first music video- Petersen

By Muzamba Siandizya

There was a time in Zambia when music had clear territories. You had Copperbelt music and then you had Lusaka music. Each side had its own identity, its own stars, its own style. If you were a fan back then, you knew the difference instantly.

And of course, there was the famous rivalry. Groups like XYZ and Kopala Swag had what many called a “beef.” Fans picked sides, debates were loud and some of those arguments still pop up today, even though the tension itself has mostly faded.

But here’s the interesting part that many people don’t think about. Back then there was no streaming, quick downloads, sharing links on WhatsApp or posting snippets online. If a song was big in Kitwe, it didn’t automatically mean people in Lusaka had heard it.

So how did the sound travel? This is where real relationships come in. In the early days of his career, Petersen spent time on the Copperbelt and connected with Marky 2 through a mutual friend. That meeting wasn’t just casual, it was the beginning of something bigger.

Marky 2 even shot Petersen’s first music video. From there, the relationship grew beyond music, it became brotherhood. That brotherhood played a role in shaping the Zambian music scene.

Whenever Petersen traveled to the Copperbelt, he would collect Marky 2’s music physically and take it back with him to Lusaka. He would share it, distribute it and introduce people to a sound they might never have heard otherwise. That’s how Copperbelt music started reaching Lusaka.

I Am Far From Being on a Ballot Paper – Petersen Speaks Out

By Muzamba Siandizya

We are just a few months away from elections, and a lot is happening. New people are joining politics and a lot of people have been defecting. One interesting trend is that more musicians are now showing interest in politics.

Back in 2021, artist Petersen made news when he said he wanted to stand as Member of Parliament for Nalikwanda. Many people supported him, some discouraged and others were excited about his decision.

But now, things have changed. This week, Petersen appeared on the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast and shared his current thoughts. He said he is not ready for politics.

In his own words, “I am far from someone who can appear on a ballot paper.” He said.

This is very different from what he said before and it’s rare to hear a politician publicly admit that they are not ready to take up public office. So what happened?

President Chiluba invited me to State House, gave me a fat brown envelope and I bought a house in Parklands- Chabinga

By Muzamba Siandizya

When Robert Chabinga was in secondary school, he was given what every school considers a very serious responsibility which was reading a speech in front of president Frederick Chiluba.

Now, this wasn’t just any speech. It had been carefully prepared, edited, re-edited and head teacher approved. In short, it was safe to read to the president.

Chabinga’s only job was to stand up, read and sit down but Chabinga had other plans. When he got to the front, he started well. nice voice, good posture, teachers smiling proudly.

Then somewhere in the middle something switched. Instead of continuing, he basically said, “You know what? Let me not lie today.” And pulled out a speech he crafted himself with real issues surrounding the school.

He talked about the school not having enough resources, struggles they faced as pupils, the kind of things that never make it into official speeches. You can imagine the teachers behind him slowly losing their peace. One probably whispered, “This boy is about to finish us.”

But Chabinga kept going. Instead of getting into trouble, the president actually listened and not only did he listen, he responded by donating 25 million to the school.

But wait, it gets better. Later, Chabinga was invited to State House. He went with his mother and head teacher. After their meeting, he was handed a thick brown envelope.

He bought a house in Parklands. Then rented it out so his mother could have a steady income. Moral of the story? Sometimes speaking your mind can get you in trouble but sometimes it gets your school funded and your family a rental property.

I Wasn’t a Prefect But I Used to Lock the Gate for Latecomers

By Muzamba Siandizya

We all had that one classmate. The one who acted like a prefect even when they were not. The teacher is late? They are already on their way to the staff room to investigate.

The teacher forgets to give homework? They quickly raise their hand, “Madam, what about the assignment?” And the whole class just looks at them like why are you like this?

That kind of student might sound familiar and it turns out, Robert Chabinga was one of them.

Speaking on the Kenny T 1 on 1 Podcast, Chabinga shared a funny but telling story about his school days. He described himself as a very serious student. Not a prefect, but you would think he was one.

According to him, he didn’t play when it came to school. If he arrived early and found some of his fellow pupils still outside, he would go ahead and close and lock the gate. For him, it was simple if you are late, it means you are not serious about your education.

While many might laugh at this now, it gives a glimpse into the kind of discipline and mindset he had from a young age. The same attitude, some would say, has followed him into his leadership style today.

My Grade 7 Results Were So Good ECZ Made Me Rewrite the Exam- Chabinga

By Muzamba Siandizya

Before Wi-Fi, Google, YouTube tutorials, school was a different kind of battlefield.

Back in the day, learning wasn’t at your fingertips. It lived in chalkboards, dog-eared textbooks and whatever your teacher managed to explain between the bell and the next class. If you missed it, you missed it. You either understood in that moment or you carried that confusion straight into exam season.

Your only lifelines were past papers and your own notes. If something didn’t click in class, you knew deep down that this might come back to haunt you.

On the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast, Robert Chabinga shares an experience from his Grade 7 days. During his intake, he didn’t just perform well, he emerged as the best student across the entire Copperbelt.

His results were so exceptional that the Examinations Council of Zambia took notice. His performance raised eyebrows to the point where he was asked to retake the exams. Instead of backing down, he stepped up willingly and scored even higher the second time.

It’s stories like these that hit differently. They remind us of where we’ve come from and just how much determination it took to succeed.
