No One in My Family Does Music, I Still Wonder Where My Love for Music Came From — Driemo

By Muzamba Siandizya

Some families are like talent factories. If the father is a carpenter, chances are one child already knows how to hold a hammer before learning multiplication tables. If the mother can sing, expect family gatherings to suddenly turn into mini concerts with free backing vocals from the children.

Parents are usually the first people to notice talent in their children too. A mother can hear her child singing in the bathroom and immediately knows the child will be good at singing. A father sees his son kicking a bottle down the road and suddenly believes the son can play soccer. Families notice these things quickly because talent often runs in the blood.

For Malawian artist Driemo, life decided to write a completely different script. Driemo grew up in a family where both his parents were teachers and devoted Muslims. Naturally, many people would expect him to grow up loving books and classrooms.

But life had other plans. Instead of falling in love with chalkboards and report cards, Driemo found himself pulled toward music. Funny enough, nobody in his family actually did music professionally.

If you are a loyal follower of the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast, then you probably know one question Kenny T loves asking artists: “Does your family have a music background?”

For many artists, the answer is yes. Someone in the family usually sang or played instruments but when Driemo appeared on the podcast, his answer was different. He admitted that nobody in his family does music and even he sometimes wonders where his passion for music came from.

Still, there was one small clue hidden in his childhood. Driemo shared that his father loved playing different genres of music at home. Those sounds quietly became part of his world. While other children were busy memorizing school notes, young Driemo was unknowingly attending a free music masterclass in his living room.

It just proves that talent can show up in the most unexpected ways. Sometimes it follows family tradition. Other times, it surprises everyone, including the person who has the talent. Life is funny like that.

I Did My First Song In 2014, It Was So Bad, I Can’t Even Listen To It Today — Driemo

By Muzamba Siandizya

You may not understand every word Driemo says in his songs but somehow you still end up singing the chorus with confidence like you’re fluent. That’s the thing about the Malawian star, his music just connects.

Whether it’s the melodies, the emotion or the vibe he brings, Driemo has mastered the art of making people feel the music even when they don’t fully understand the language.

This week, Driemo sat down on the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast and opened up about the journey behind the fame and let’s just say, it didn’t begin with hit songs and smooth success.

The singer revealed that his music journey actually started way back in 2014. And believe it or not, the very first song he ever recorded was so bad that even he can’t listen to it today because the lyrics were completely off concept.

And honestly, after hearing him talk about the ups, downs and embarrassing first attempts, you’ll never look at his success the same way again and get to appreciate his talent fully.

Winning Awards in Zambia Means Nothing- Jemax

By Muzamba Siandizya

Tomorrow at 11:00, something you probably didn’t expect from Jemax is about to air.

On the Kenny T 1-on-1 Podcast, Jemax doesn’t hold back. Even though he is known as an award winning rapper with several trophies to his name, he drops a statement that will raise eyebrows.

He openly says that in Zambia, winning an award doesn’t really change anything. In his view, an award winner and someone who has never won are basically on the same level.

As he speaks with Kenny T the conversation keeps getting more honest and more unexpected, touching on success, recognition, and what it really means to “make it” in music.

This is not the usual celebrity talk. It’s the kind of episode people will argue about after watching.

Catch the full episode tomorrow at 11:00.

Big Machines Is a Blessing to Me - 76 Drums

By Muzamba Siandizya

There are songs you listen to and then there are songs that make you stop and ask questions. Big machines did both. One minute everything was normal, the next minute people were on their phones wondering who did the song.

Let’s be honest, it didn’t sound or look like the usual songs we are used to. The visuals were clean but slightly confusing (in a good way). The energy was different.

People replayed the video, paused some scenes, shared opinions like film critics and Just like that, the song started spreading beyond borders.

That’s how the name 76 Drums name started gaining the recognition. Now you can’t even say “76 Drums” without someone jumping in with, “Ahh Big Machines guy”

When he appeared on the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast he shared that he had been doing music long before the song dropped, only that nobody was really paying attention back then. The moment Big Machines came out, everything changed.

He describes the song as a blessing and it’s easy to see why. It opened doors, introduced him to a wider audience and put his name in conversations that he wasn’t part of before.

If you do music, keep creating, putting things out, even when it feels like no one is watching because the truth is you never really know which song will be the one that puts you out there.

I used to direct music videos before I came to Lusaka - 76 Drums

By Muzamba Siandizya

The just-ended Youth Awards at Mulungushi International Conference Centre gave us a lot of moments, but one performance that really stood out was Tiana’s. Her set didn’t feel rushed or random, it felt thought out.

The red theme pulled everything together in a simple but artistic way. It matched the mood of her songs and gave the whole performance a certain feel, nothing over the top, just clean and intentional. You could tell there was effort behind it.

Now, here’s the interesting part. That entire set was put together by 76 Drums. If you’ve seen his work before, then you already know he takes what he does seriously. He doesn’t just show up, he delivers beyond expectations.

On the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast, he talked about how his journey started way before he came to Lusaka. He’s always been into music and art,
and more importantly, he’s always been someone who likes to bring ideas to life.

Back then, he was directing music videos for artists in his area, just trying things out, learning as he went, no big spotlight but just work.

And honestly, you can see that growth now. The kind of videos he’s putting out today, the sets he’s involved in, it’s clear that he’s built his skill over time. Nothing was handed to him but it’s just been consistency and putting in the work.
