China is once again accusing the Philippines of secretly building a military base at Escoda (Sabina) Shoal. 🛳️🚧
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has firmly rejected these claims, labeling them as baseless and unfounded. According to PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela, China’s fears reflect their own history of unlawful activities in the South China Sea, including illegal reclamation and militarization. 🛑
Since April, the BRP Teresa Magbanua has been stationed at Escoda Shoal to monitor suspicious activities. This presence is part of routine patrols and not related to building any military infrastructure. 🚢
China’s accusations come amid ongoing tensions in the region, where China claims nearly the entire South China Sea, despite a 2016 international ruling rejecting these claims. The real focus should be on these geopolitical dynamics rather than unfounded allegations. 🌐
