The Tapes Archive

This crazy photo was taken by the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer John Blair. I had it professionally colorized in 2018. It's from my documentary called Dead Man's Line. This was the historical backdrop for the new Gus Van Sant film Dead Man's Wire, starring Al Pacino and Bill Skarsgård.

You can watch the trailer and full documentary on my channel. https://youtu.be/gQZMFksVFhU?si=NY4xs...

The Tapes Archive

A lot of you found this channel through the Black Sabbath, Van Halen, or Tarantino videos I’ve posted. But before The Tapes Archive existed, I spent years making a feature documentary called Dead Man’s Line. When it was finally released, it didn’t really take off. That was tough—but it also pushed me to rethink what I wanted to do. That’s when I decided to create this channel.

And now, in one of those full-circle moments, that same story from my documentary is the basis of Gus Van Sant’s upcoming film Dead Man’s Wire, starring Al Pacino, Bill Skarsgård, Cary Elwes, Colman Domingo, and others. My documentary ended up being part of the historical foundation for the film during its development.

Long story short, I have made that doc available for free here on my channel. If you have been entertained at all by my work, would you give the trailer a try? If it's not your cup of tea, all good, but if it is, please check out the whole movie.

Thanks! -Alan 🤘🏻🍻

The Tapes Archive

Anyone know the backstory? Not your typical image of Neil Peart. Usually the quiet, disciplined perfectionist behind the kit, here he looks like he's cutting loose. This past week I dropped a new Neil Peart mini-documentary https://youtu.be/qEpHsKZbEwE

Even the President couldn’t stop Steve McQueen from dancing with his daughter.
That’s 17-year-old Luci Baines Johnson doing the Watusi with the King of Cool himself.

But that’s just who McQueen was.
And in Bullitt, he took all that quiet swagger and channeled it into one of the most stripped-down, badass performances in movie history.

Quentin Tarantino said it best:
“As pure cinema, it’s one of the best-directed movies ever made.”

My new video breaks it all down — Bullitt, McQueen, the chase scene, and what makes this film such a cinematic landmark.

Is Sabbath’s fanbase dying off?

According to YouTube analytics from my Black Sabbath Vol. 4 documentary:

63.4% of viewers are over 45

Only 2% are under 25

96.1% are male

No Gen Z. Barely any millennials.
It’s mostly Gen X and boomers still keeping the flame alive.

📊 (Not scientific, just YouTube stats — but they paint a picture.)

So here's the question:
Are we the last generation that gives a damn about Sabbath?
Or is there still a way to pass it on?
