9 Life Lessons From 19 Years as a Professional Footballer 💭
Most people think that being a professional footballer is just about showing up on a weekend and kick a ball around for 90 minutes. But behind the scenes there is a lot that you don´t see.
Here are 9 lessons I´ve learned over the last 19 years that you can apply to your life. 👇🏻
1. Discipline is Everything. If you do not have personal discipline in your life you do not stand a chance.
2. Accountability is the Driver of Success. Holding yourself accountable for everything in your life. How you work, how you prepare, how you eat, how you sleep and so on is the way you grow. Excuses and blaming others won´t get you anywhere.
3. Consistency Wins. Anyone can have a good day, but the success comes from consistency over years, not short bursts of moments here and there.
4. Resilience is Non-Negotiable. Whether it´s fans tearing you down, media criticism, ill behaved co-workers, a shitty boss, a project that went wrong, you need to get back up every single time.
5. Sacrifice is Essential. I have on average had 7-10 days of vacation during the summer, no weekends off and been away from family for long periods of the time since I was 15. Success can´t come without sacrifice.
6. Growth Happens During the Tough Times. It is easy to have a positive mindset, strong ethics, solid morals when life is good. The real test of character and who you are comes when things get though. When projects are failing, when you have to lay off workers, when you have to have those difficult one-on-one meetings as a leader, or when your boss are constantly breathing down your neck. Who are you then?
7. Dealing with Pressure is a Valuable Skill. With the constant pressure of earning a new contract, fierce competition and a constant pressure to perform in front of thousands, you learn what you are really made of. Learning to perform under strong pressure is an amazing skill to have. Whether it is as an athlete, worker or entrepreneur.
8. Improve > Be Replaced. You continuously have to improve your skills, mindset, habits and capabilities associated with your work, if not you are easily replaced. Become irreplaceable.
9. Surround Yourself with Great People. Community, accountability and support is very important for long-term success. Having someone you can trust that grounds you when things are going well and someone that lifts you when times are tough is invaluable. Whether you´re a pro athlete, worker or an entrepreneur.
As we grow together, it’s important that we take a moment to introduce ourselves, share our goals, and talk about the challenges we’re working through. This is a safe space where we can support, inspire, and uplift one another.
Here’s what I would love to hear from you:
1. Who are you? Tell me a bit about yourself. Where are you from, what do you enjoy doing, and what brought you here?
2. What are your goals? Whether it’s personal, academic, or professional, share what you’re aiming to achieve. No goal is too big or too small!
3. What are you struggling with right now? It’s okay to be honest—every challenge is part of the journey. Whether it’s balancing life, staying motivated, or finding resources, I am here to help!
Feel free to respond below and let’s support each other as we move forward on our individual journey. We’re all in this together.
It is time to choose the new topic for my next video! I love the support I have had recently and I am very fortunate to have such a positive and great audience. Vote below to have a role to play in the upcoming video! 😊
