The Origins of the Roller Method

I remember watching this video years ago, it was so impactful on me as a young musician.

I often come back to this video, it’s a reminder of why music is such a big part of my life.

It may be one of the best videos on YouTube. Please do yourself a favor and watch.

My methodology follows this concept. We need to be able to speak before we understand how the language we are speaking works. Just like a toddler learning to speak.

My methodology focuses on teaching us how to “speak” with our instruments first, which will spark curiosity. That curiosity will entice you to question why some sounds work in certain situations, and some don’t. Once we reach this level of curiosity, we can begin defining and refining the process.

To be completely clear, My methodology is not a new thing, I didn’t invent any notes, scales, or chords. As the old saying goes “There is nothing new under the sun”
