Helping sensitive soulds (re)build a thoughtful, creative life šŸ’œ

Hello hello, I’m Jo, and welcome to Thought Couture! I’m an essayist, arts enthusiast, lifelong learner, and self-described ā€œRenaissance woman in the making.ā€

Writing is my calling, but I’ve never wanted to be ONLY a writer—I long to integrate all of my passions into one cohesive creative existence. Despite infinite distractions, I believe it’s possible, though it'll take some work. But if you want the same, let's do it together!

On this channel, you’ll find:
~Self-education advice
~Cultural commentary
~Personal reflections
~Musings on specific works of literature and the arts

We’re going on a journey of continual becoming, crafting a community of fellow multitude-containing individuals passionate about literature, culture, and the pursuit of a well-rounded, thought-oriented life. I look forward to seeing what we create together!

✨New video✨going live tomorrow @ 3pm EDT! I’ve been overwhelmed by the love on the self education video, but it occurred to me that I missed what might be the most important step—the one where you say ā€œI’m doing this.ā€ So join me for a discussion on self discipline, the myth of the dopamine detox, and how to make saying ā€œnoā€ to screens simple 🩷

Have you heard? The BBC recently crossed a line that can’t be uncrossed—using AI to craft a course taught by Agatha Christie, who passed in 1976. This could forever change how we interact with a deceased artist’s work…I break it all down in my most recent video! 😬

When I uploaded my first video a year and a half ago, a community of 1k was hard to imagine, much less 10k. I’m speechless! THANK YOU to everyone who’s spent even a moment on my channel—your support means more to me than I can express, and not a single like, comment, or subscription goes unappreciated.

I have quite a few projects in the works that I’m excited to share, and I look forward to bringing you higher-quality content in the near future. Truly, I can’t thank you enough for being here. šŸ’œ I hope you’re having a lovely day and reading a great book!

March may be coming to a close, but it’s never too late to celebrate Women’s History Month! Join me tomorrow 3/23 @ 3pm ET for 7 of my favorite nonfiction women’s history books—we’ll be traveling from Ancient Greece to present-day Alabama, with a pit stop at the European witch hunts. See you then! šŸ§™šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

(Pictured is Bernini’s sculpture of Medusa, 1630. She will be joining us along the way.)

New book releases: Do you find them exciting, or overwhelming?

In tomorrow's video, I'm chatting about my conflicted relationship with new releases, the "disposability" of literature, & the affect of algorithms on our reading--and what we may be able to do about it. I hope you'll join me, 2/17 @ 4pm ET!

Hey everyone! I’ve been busy working on my next video, the most serious one in a while…unfortunately, we have to talk about Neil Gaiman again. Rather, given how many prominent writers were revealed to be less than admirable people in 2024 alone, it’s time to tease out whether we should keep reading a problematic author’s work (short answer: it’s complicated as hell). This video is taking longer than usual because I want to make sure my script is as clear and cohesive as possible, but I believe it will be worth the wait to have this important discussion.

The video will go live Friday 1/31! In the meantime, you may want to check out my original video on Gaiman as an introduction. See you then! 🩵

Happy New Year everyone! šŸŽ‰ I hope your wintertime festivities of choice have brought you both joy and rest. Thank you for making my first full year on YouTube a memorable one! I learned and grew more than I thought possible one year ago, and I’m looking toward 2025 with excitement and ambition. My goal for this upcoming year is to bring you content that dives deeper into the art of literature and life as a reader, including more educational content, video essays, literary analysis, and creative writing advice. I also plan to start sharing more of my own writing…perhaps on Substack? Regardless, I hope 2025 brings you health, happiness, and many great reads 🩵. I’ll see you shortly, with my ā€œbest/worstā€ books of 2024!

Hey friends! I had hoped to put out a new video today…but seeing as I had my gallbladder removed on Monday and feel like I got hit by a freight train, I should probably focus on resting šŸ˜…. The new video is now scheduled for Saturday 12/21 @ 4pm ET, but until then you might enjoy my most recent video, in case you missed it!
