Mumbai woke up to waterlogged roads, heavy traffic congestion and disruptions to local train services on Wednesday after an intense overnight spell of rain lashed the city.

Several parts of Mumbai recorded more than 300 mm of rainfall, while South Mumbai registered its wettest June day in over a decade, receiving 248 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

Colaba’s highest-ever 24-hour rainfall remains the 478 mm-plus downpour recorded on June 10, 1991.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had earlier issued a yellow alert forecasting heavy rainfall, upgraded its warning with a red nowcast alert for Mumbai and Palghar districts at 4 am on Wednesday, citing the likelihood of intense rain spells, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday (June 24), trapping several labourers beneath the debris.

The incident reportedly occurred during concrete casting work, when around 50 to 60 workers were present at the site. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with the Army being called in to assist emergency teams.

Officials fear that more than two dozen workers may still be trapped under the rubble as rescue efforts continue.

An Indian national, identified as 35-year-old Akash Tiwari, has been sentenced to six months in prison in Singapore after pleading guilty to molesting and harassing a cabin crew member on board a Singapore Airlines flight.

According to "The Independent", Tiwari admitted to the offences, following which a Singapore court sentenced him to six months' imprisonment.

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke is scheduled to appear before the Review Committee of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) at 3 pm on Wednesday to contest the withholding of the party’s X account, @CJP_2029.

Dipke said he would personally present his case before the Inter-Ministerial Committee reviewing the blocking of the Cockroach Janata Party’s first X handle in India.

Police in Bihar on Monday said they had busted an alleged impersonation racket during the NEET re-examination conducted at multiple centres in Lakhisarai district, arresting 30 people.

Those arrested include alleged dummy candidates, facilitators and individuals suspected of being involved in the biometric verification process, police said.

The NEET re-test was held on June 21 at four examination centres in the district. According to a statement issued by Lakhisarai police, centre superintendents, magistrates and police personnel had been deployed to ensure the examination was conducted fairly.

3 months after surviving a missile strike on the oil tanker MV Sky Light off Oman, eight Indian sailors are still struggling to rebuild their lives.

The March 1 attack killed the captain Ashish Kumar and left another crew member missing. The survivors escaped with their lives but lost passports, seafarer documents, educational certificates and other identity papers in the fire.

Now back home, many are taking up odd jobs while navigating a long bureaucratic process to replace the documents they need to return to work at sea.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday signed two executive orders aimed at accelerating the country’s quantum computing ambitions and strengthening protections against emerging cyber threats linked to the technology.

One of the orders seeks to safeguard government systems from potential quantum-enabled cyberattacks by setting a target to transition key federal computing infrastructure to post-quantum cryptography by 2030 or 2031.

Quantum computers use the principles of quantum physics to process information and are expected to solve certain complex problems significantly faster than today’s most powerful supercomputers.

The technology is also seen as a potential challenge to existing cybersecurity systems, with experts warning that future quantum computers could break encryption methods currently used to protect sensitive digital information.
