Walking the Cornish Coast. Easy-to-follow circular walks on the beautiful coastline of Cornwall. I tell the tales and the historical background of each walk as I go - I was born and brought up in Cornwall, and I love telling the stories of this little land.
My walks are all between three and seven miles and can be followed by anyone in reasonable health. Check the channel 'Posts' section for a map and written directions for each walking video.

Walk Directions: The Bedruthan Steps (4 miles)
The walk starts from the National Trust car park at Park Head, accessed from the B3276 between Newquay and Padstow, about two miles north of Mawgan Porth. From the car park, continue a little further along the lane until you reach a small farmhouse. Cross the style immediately in front of you and follow the well-defined path down through a couple of fields. Pass through the kissing gate at the bottom and follow the path down through the woodlands until you reach the coast path and the beach at Porth Mear. Here, turn left (south) along the coast path, which climbs to a cliff with splendid views of Trevose Head (with its lighthouse) to the north of you.
Follow the coast path Southward to Park Head - take the side path right from the coast path at this point and walk out onto the headland, to enjoy magnificent views of the coast south as far as the town of Newquay, and northward to Trevose Head.
Return to the coast path and walk Southwards along the cliffs to the Bedruthan Steps. When the path descends down into a dip, you have reached the top of the old staircase down to the beach - the steps of Bedruthan Steps. At the time of writing, the steps are closed to the public, but if you find them open, be sure to descend to the beach - it is wonderful! If you wish a toilet break or refreshments, you can take the stone-paved path and stairs up to the National Trust cafe at the top of the rise to the south.
The return journey involves retracing your path above the Bedruthan Steps for about half a mile. When you see a footpath sign on your right (to Pentire Farm & Car Park), pass through the adjoining gate and follow the path across fields to return to your starting point.

Walk Directions: The Smugglers Of Prussia Cove (4 miles)
Park up in the car park at the lower end of Perranuthnoe. Take the tarmac lane at the lower end, heading East a little above the beach, with fields on your right-hand side. Follow the coast path signs as the track goes up and down, narrows, and eventually becomes the coast path again. Follow the coast path through unfarmed land for about a mile, passing the crenellated Acton Castle on the hill above. Follow the path as it climbs to Cudden Point.
Cudden Point itself is spectacular - it is worth taking the side path out to the point and enjoying the views up and down the coast in all directions. From Cudden Point, rejoin the coast path and enjoy the views as the path first climbs and then falls past Piskies Cove.
The small headland past Piskies Cove is the last feature before Prussia Cove. Follow the path as it passes through shrubbery into Prussia Coce. A small slipway to your right descends to the cove itself - explore a little and then return to the coast path, which passes along the clifftop rim of the cove. The Carters' family home overlooking the cove is a prominent landmark on the clifftop - facing you as you walk.
Follow the path as it joins a track leading out of the cove, past several houses. The track meets the single-track road serving the cove at the Prussia Cove carp park. From the car park, follow the road inland, ignoring the first footpath sign on the left. The road bends sharply right, about 150 yards after this, take the public footpath signed to the left.
Follow the footpath across fields and around the side of Acton Castle. Footpath signs lead you along the bottom edges of a couple of fields and then drop down onto the access lane for Acton Castle. Follow this away from the castle, past a farm, then take a left turn in front of a white bungalow. Follow the signed footpath around a campsite and a couple of fields. The path enters a small farm with a small holiday complex. Continue ahead and exit the yard in the direction of St Michael's Mount, now visible ahead. Follow the path through fields and down to Perranuthnoe, enjoying the views of Mounts Bay. Rejoin the road through the village at a point opposite the inn. Turn left and walk down towards the sea and return to the car park.
