This was an eye-opener for me today.

The West has a habit of borrowing Eastern philosophy, simplifying it until it sounds interesting, and losing the philosophy in the process. Yin and yang becomes light versus darkness—a neat symbol of two opposing forces held in balance.

But as he explains here: “It’s not about balance. It’s about motion.”

Night is not the opposite of day. Night becomes day. One condition contains the movement toward the next.

“Stop trying to farm against the weather.”

That line is going to stay with me. It doesn’t mean becoming passive or surrendering control. A farmer still has to work. It means recognizing the forces already in motion and working with reality instead of demanding that reality cooperate with you.
