What if some of the traditions we see in Africa today are echoes of a much older past?

Look closely.

The hairstyle, the long braided hair, the simple white garment, the neck cord, the arm bands, details that may look familiar in parts of Africa today can also be seen in ancient Kemet.

On the right, we see an ancient Egyptian royal representation associated with Tutankhamun. On the left, Massaï warriors wearing traditional clothing and hairstyles.

This is not proof that these women are “the descendants” of a particular ancient Egyptian individual. But it is a striking reminder that ancient Kemet was not an isolated civilization floating outside Africa.

It developed in Africa, along the Nile, within a continent whose peoples have maintained diverse cultural traditions for thousands of years.

Sometimes history is not only written in books.

Sometimes, you can see echoes of it in the way people dress, braid their hair, adorn their bodies, and preserve traditions across generations.

Kemet was African. And Africa has always had a history worth remembering.
