Recently, I created a Fiverr account and set up my gigs. After a few weeks, one morning, I received a message from someone trying to place an order. I was so excited, but the person said they couldn’t complete the order and sent me a screenshot. The screenshot showed a request asking for my email address to “verify the first order.”
At first, I thought maybe it wasn’t a scam. I even took a screenshot and asked ChatGPT for help. Initially, ChatGPT said it looked genuine and that the first order might require email or number verification. It even gave me steps to verify my account. But when I checked my Fiverr dashboard, there was no option for such verification. I searched on YouTube for more information but found nothing helpful.
Honestly, at the back of my mind, I just didn’t want to lose that first order. I kept thinking, “I need to grab this opportunity.” I even tried asking the buyer about their requirements, but there was no proper reply option. I searched more, got even more frustrated, and started to feel desperate.
As a beginner, it’s really hard to find the right information and know whom to trust. Eventually, I went back to ChatGPT, uploaded the screenshot of the buyer’s message, and explained the situation clearly. This time, ChatGPT confirmed it was a scam. By then, Fiverr had already blocked that account. Later, I contacted Fiverr support, and they confirmed that buyers never need a seller’s email or personal details to place an order. That’s when I finally felt relieved.
I’m sharing this so that other new sellers on Fiverr can be aware of such scams. Here are my takeaways:
Never be desperate, even if it’s your first order.
Stay calm and handle the situation carefully.
If you can’t find the right information or have no one around to guide you, treat it as a real-life learning experience.
You’ll either gain valuable experience or make mistakes you can learn from — but in both cases, you’ll grow. And remember, you’re not alone; so many beginners face the same struggles.
