I interviewed an author about a book my audience can't read. Stefan Kisyov was visiting New York City with his family to present his novel The Hagiographer at the Bulgarian embassy. We met on the subway.
Historical fiction about Constantine the Philosopher, who invented the Glagolitic alphabet, and his rogue biographer? Partially set in Rome? I had to know more!
It was Stefan's first interview in English. His daughter Maria came to help, but he did fine!
"What do you want to do in Brooklyln?" I asked. Maria wanted to shop for Converse sneakers.
I hope someone translates The Hagiographer by Stefan Kisyov into English so I can read it!
And thanks to Vlada from Yasna Voices Bulgarian women's choir for introducing us when we ran into each other on the C train. :-)
You can hear Stefan's interview on The Modo di Bere Podcast, S4E9 on the English podcast playlist.
If you speak Bulgarian, have you heard of Stefan Kisyov?
