The Numerology Nook™️

I've been thinking a lot about this recently and I had heard a Native American explain this before and was just talking about it with someone else recently. That is that non-Indigenous Americans who were born in the United States (and Canada) are basically stateless, or lacking a true sense of home (culture). And it's entirely true.

Think about it. The United States for the last 250 years has been about a mixture of cultures because of immigration. Unless you are Indigenous, your ancestry, and in turn the bulk of your actual culture, lies somewhere else. Even if your parents or grandparents came here and brought that culture with them, it isn't the same thing as being fully immersed within that culture. We instead have a mixing pot of cultures. Which is beautiful, but it still leaves a certain emptiness from within. It is hard to feel at home when you're not immersed within that home. My grandparents brought Italy with them, but I never had the chance to be immersed in that culture like I would have had I grown up in Italy. I actually feel more connected with Seneca (Native American) culture, because that's what I was immersed in growing up - even though I'm not Seneca. I recently went to obtain my Italian citizenship but just as I was about to file, Italy changed the citizenship rules to only include parents and g-parents. All of my paternal gg- parents were born in Italy as were most of their children (except my grandparents.) So, after thousands of dollars - I just missed the cutoff. Because of a brand new man-made law.

We can see even today that we desperately long to be connected to our ancestral cultures because we, non- indigenous (the current administration especially) try to make the US one singular culture, for some extremist - a "white" culture. But, it isn't, nor will it ever be. European culture is in Europe, not here. So much of the control, manipulation, separation and destruction we see in this country comes from the sadness and anger of feeling stateless without realizing we are. We try to force something into being that isn't possible.

To make matters worse, the US is one of the only countries in the western world where you can't live in another country easily if you want to. Many countries (including Canada) have agreements with each other where visas are easily obtained - work or otherwise. But the US has nothing like that with any other country (outside of temporary student visas). So, for myself, my ancestors are from both Italy and Ireland. That's where the bones of most of my ancestors lie. I can visit, but I can never (reasonably or easily) live in either country at length because I wasn't born there. So, if I want to go home to the lands of my people, and immerse myself in those cultures, I can't. Not long term anyway. All because of man-made borders and rules. Native Americans, First Nations and Mexicans don't have the same access to the lands of their own ancestors because of displacement and borders. I can't even imagine how descendants of slaves feel. That's a deeper layer of betrayal where the only way forward truly is through a tremendous amount of reparations that haven't even remotely begun, and we seem to always be moving in the wrong direction on that.

I hear so often, "The United States is a Christian nation! Built on Christian values!" No it isn't and no it wasn't. It was literally stolen from the original people who lived here (that were 100 percent NOT Christian or Catholic) and was taken over by Europeans. So, when you hear that, what you are actually hearing is, "My ancestors came from Europe (insert country here) which was built on Christian values and I want to make the US be like where I came from." And if that triggers something within you or sparks an emotion, then I encourage you to do your own research into your own lineage and family tree to figure out where the bones of your ancestors are and start to immerse yourself into that or those cultures as much as possible so that you can gain a deeper sense of home. Fill that void that you likely can't even see, with something that repairs, heals and is constructive, rather than trying to make the US into something it absolutely is not - one singular culture.

It seems like so many of the rules and policies of the world are in place to not only keep us separated from one another, but separated from ourselves. I guess we are easier to control that way. Everyone should always have the option of going home and reconnecting with the land that is part of their own DNA. Without the red tape and without the unrealistic or impossible hurdles and ridiculous borders.

Perhaps someday. ❤️‍🩹
