Today in History : November 25th, 1930

Joseph Antrim, brother of Billy the Kid, passed away in Denver, Colorado. While perhaps not reaching the notoriety heights of his brother, Joe seemed to live quite a colorful life. Unfortunately, at the time of his passing, there was nobody to claim his body for a proper burial.

Now pre 1927, only 3 years earlier, Joe would have been buried in a paupers grave in one of the local cemeteries, perhaps Riverside Cemetery. But post 1927 and the formation of the State Anatomical Board, unclaimed bodies were to be donated to the Medical School for research purposes.

A burial permit was issued (something given for disposal of bodies, be it burial, cremation or transpot) and his body was moved to the grounds of the Medical School, where adds were run for a few days alongside others, and with his body still going unclaimed, possession was officially given to the School.


For over 90 years, this is where the story ended and his final resting place was unknown. Luckily today we know his final rest place is Melvin-Lewis Pioneer Cemetery alongside 1,600 other cremains of people whose bodies were also donated to the school.

First I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me on this wild adventure. They say life isn't about the destination but rather the journey, and it has been hell of a journey. I started this to share history, adventure, a wonder of this planet we all share. I hope along the way each of you have been able to take something away from it, or be inspired in some fashion. I feel awfully lucky to have been given the opportunity to experience all the wonderful adventures. While the future is unknown, at least the journey here has been so wonderful.
