I never hear people talk about how wholesome Kaoru and Hagumi's friendship is, I know the Hagumi struggling with her home life plot was abandoned but I think it never went away, just kept existing in the background and I imagine Kaoru was always there for her when things were difficult. Like Kaoru must have been an outlet for Hagumi to be her childish playful self without anyone telling her to calm down or be quiet. I imagine one day Hagumi was afraid to come home because her father was angry and Kaoru invited herself to stay for dinner to protect her. I imagine Hagumi's brother helped Kaoru learn to play the guitar too. Hagumi is a typical tomboy but Kaoru lets her be the princess for once
