Life has its twists and turns, and mine has been no different. Two years ago, I faced colon cancer, and since then, things have definitely changed. Oakwood is no longer about lawn maintenance — that chapter has closed. Today, I focus on video, photography, and creating content that reflects real life, tools, equipment, and the journey we’re all on together.
I don’t know it all — and never will — but that’s part of being human. This channel is a place to share, learn, and grow, with room for faith, honest conversations, and the ups and downs of life. If you ever feel the need, or just want to talk about life, business, or anything at all, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." — Jeremiah 29:11

It used to be that employers would say they couldn’t find good employees, but nowadays, that has become more of an excuse. The reality is that many people don’t want to work for their organizations because of poor management, lack of communication, or toxic work environments.
This shift underscores the importance of effective leadership in today's workplace. Modern leaders must foster environments that promote open communication, professional growth, and genuine appreciation for employees' contributions. It’s not enough to simply say the right things leaders must back their words with consistent action.
That doesn’t mean holding employees' hands through every step of the job. Structure, guidelines, and clear policies are crucial. Employees need a path to follow, but they also need leadership that understands the realities of work. There will always be emergencies that require extra effort closing deals, securing contracts, or rallying as a team to push through a demanding project. In these moments, strong leadership and teamwork are invaluable.
However, the problem arises when management begins to take advantage of employees. No one wants to be part of a system where leadership plays office politics, manipulates schedules, or exploits workers while expecting them to stay loyal. Too often, this gets spun into the narrative that “people are just too sensitive these days.” But that’s simply not true. There are plenty of hard-working men and women willing to go the extra mile not because they have to, but because they take pride in their work.
The difference is that today, workers demand basic respect. They’re not asking for handouts, just fair treatment. And in a world where alternative income streams are more accessible than ever, many will simply walk away rather than tolerate poor leadership. The real challenge isn’t finding good people it’s proving that your company is a place worth working for.

Stop worrying about keeping up with the Joneses or impressing friends and family. Focus on the data, make smart decisions, and remember: a steady, simple business often leads to the greatest success. As Warren Buffett said, 'In the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windshield.

Keeping your name out there year-round is really important for a lawn and landscaping business, even if it’s just a soft approach to remind people you’re around. It helps you stay on the radar for both your current clients and potential ones. Growing too fast can cause headaches, so it’s a good idea to take a step back and look at your best clients. Think about where you found them, how much it cost to get them, and how much they’ve brought in for your business. That can really help you figure out where to focus your advertising and make smarter decisions long-term.

New clients are like seeds nurture them, and they’ll grow into your greatest advocates. Just as Einstein simplified the universe with relativity, the key to lasting success is simple: treat every customer like your best salesperson because they are.

Expanding your lawn and landscape business to include a big expense like snow plowing requires careful consideration. Here are five key indicators you're ready:
1. Strong Financial Stability: Your current business is consistently profitable, and you have the resources to invest in expensive equipment like snowplows, salt spreaders, and higher insurance costs without overextending.
2. Customer Demand: Existing clients are asking for year-round services like snow removal, or there’s a clear demand in your area during winter months.
3. Seasonal Revenue Gaps: Your revenue drops during the off-season, and adding snow plowing can help maintain cash flow and keep your team busy.
4. Market Opportunity: Your area experiences consistent snowfall, and there’s enough demand for snow removal without excessive competition.
5. Operational Readiness: Your team and equipment can adapt to the new service, and you’re prepared for the additional labor, liability, and logistics that come with it.
Start small by leasing equipment or subcontracting to test the market before making a full commitment. Expand only when it aligns with your long-term business goals.

Starting out in a new industry or launching a business feels like standing at the edge of a cliff. It’s exhilarating and full of possibility, yet it can be overwhelming and uncertain. The key is finding people who will encourage you, guide you, and share the wisdom you need to succeed people who will, figuratively speaking, teach you how to fish.
What’s troubling, though, is how some people, after reaching the top of the mountain, forget those who helped them along the way. Instead of extending a hand to others, they scoff or dismiss those still climbing. Why does this happen? It often comes down to pride, insecurities, and a lack of integrity—qualities that can blind people to the value of humility and gratitude.
As we step into 2025, take a moment to reflect on your goals for the year. Who do you want by your side to help you grow, and how will you stay grounded enough to lift others along the way? Wishing you a Happy New Year and success in everything you pursue!
