Imagine this situation: You and your friends are at a cafeteria and you need an extra chair. You see one person sitting at a table with three available chairs, so you ask if you can take one:
🪑"Dobrý den. Můžu si vzít tuhle židli?"
The person answers: "Klidně." What does it mean?

I will discuss this fun topic in tomorrow's video!

🎁 I'm feeling generous today! Since I already finished setting everything up for tomorrow’s video (which is not very common), I decided to share the link to the unlisted video here: https://youtu.be/YbHqwFu2C0E

It will also give me a chance to see how many of you have the time -and the desire- to watch a Czech lesson on a Wednesday evening, haha!

What's new? I added four little quizzes to the video (a new feature on YouTube). You will find them below the video (see the second picture). Each question also includes a timestamp so you can easily find the explanation in the video.

How exactly do "se" and "si" work in Czech? That is the topic I have approached several times in my videos, and tomorrow I will show you another one.

📧 I have been getting emails and comments asking whether my video courses or e-books prepare students for a specific language exam or provide a certificate. While I do not underestimate the importance of certificates (this is the world we live in), I do not offer such courses - at least not yet. It simply doesn’t feel right in my heart at the moment.

I even somewhat resent labeling people as A1, B1 learners, etc., but I use these labels so that students can get at least a rough idea of what kind of material to expect. Those of you who know my work may have noticed that the knowledge I offer in a specific course often goes well beyond a single level.

My courses and resources may not be intended to prepare you for an exam, but they WILL prepare you for life in the Czech Republic - understanding Czechs and interacting with them in real situations.

These two resources are currently discounted until February 10th, and they will help you understand and use practical phrases that you can use in all kinds of situations (and certainly even exams):

1️⃣ “A Fantastic Journey Into the Czech Language & Culture” – my bestselling Udemy video course, perfect for absolute beginners. Over 12 hours of video material that feels like a one-on-one lesson:

2️⃣ “The 100 Most Frequent Czech Verbs” – a colorful and engaging e-book. You will learn 1,000 useful phrases, which you can also listen to anytime, anywhere. If you really need a level reference, it’s suitable for A1, A2, and even B1 learners.

PS: I took these two photos in the summer of 2025 - two almost opposite, yet perfect views. Click on the pictures to see them in full - it's worth it.
1. Prague panorama after rain
2. A view of the Krkonoše Mountains and Sněžka, the tallest mountain in the Czech Republic, taken from our family cottage (my favourite place).

💡 Our next topic will be focused on verbs and phrases that typically go with "že" (coming tomorrow).
Choose a suitable verb to complete this sentence:
________ , ŽE víš, kde mám kancelář.
(...... that you know where my office is.)

YouTube surprised me today! I was uploading my new video for Thursday and found that there is a new feature - adding a quiz directly in the video. I don't know how exactly that will be displayed but I gave it a shot. I will check it soon and see if it's worth having.

Prý je to muž, jehož mají všichni rádi… 🤔
Sounds a bit mysterious, right?
This sentence hides advanced Czech grammar that many learners avoid - and even some native speakers hesitate to use.

Watch my new video on the relative pronoun JENŽ. You'll learn when and why the Czech language uses this word, how it differs from "který" and "co," and whether you really need it at all.

The full explanation is in the new video 🎥✨ https://youtu.be/2wLfK1Sxy5U
I'll be happy if you support it with a like or a comment!
