Hello beautiful people!!!

Welcome to Love Me To Health—a sacred space where healing, wholeness, and self-discovery unfold in real time.

I’m Marissa Brooks, founder of Community Oak Storytelling and Research, where I serve as a Community Health Griot and Public Health Researcher. I use the power of storytelling to promote wellness in mind, body, and spirit.

In my 40s, I’m healing generational trauma, managing high blood pressure, navigating life transitions, and learning to love myself more deeply every day. This channel is where I share that journey—through honest reflections, ancestral wisdom, and practices that support a return to joy and balance.

🐌 Slow down. Go within. Come home to yourself.

Giving back to the community is part of my self-care. I used to overextend myself to the point of exhaustion, which eventually led me to pause and reset.

Today, I had the joy of reconnecting with that part of myself by working with STL youth through the Science Center—thanks to an invitation from my lovely friend, LaKisha. I shared my love for storytelling and encouraged the youth to use their own stories as tools for change.

I fell in love with them—and they loved me right back. I look forward to discovering how God plans to use me in this next season.

Have you ever experienced spiritual friendships?
Spiritual friendships are the reciprocal connections I once prayed for. They’re the kind of friendships where we check in on each other, pray for one another, and stay rooted in our shared faith as one body in Christ. These are safe spaces—honest, supportive, and collaborative.

Lately, God has been revealing who my true friends are. And while I’ve lost a few along the way, I’ve gained something far more valuable: true sisterhood.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)

As more Black men embrace the responsibility of loving and protecting Black women, the Black community can begin the healing process needed to strengthen families, rebuild communities, and create a lasting model of health and well-being for future generations. ##lovemetohealth

Baby, my husband took me to my favorite vineyard and winery for our 10th anniversary and we had a good 'ol time. The day started with wine tasting in a wine barrel room where we had both wine and food pairings. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the vineyard socializing, eating good food, and listening to live music. It was a vibe. Subscribe to my channel to see when I post my anniversary vlog.

When I was first laid off, I immediately retreated.
I felt lost and lonely, so I stepped back into community, hoping to feel better.

At first, it felt good… but something was off.
The energy didn’t align with where God was taking me.
So I pulled back again—not out of fear, but out of obedience.

God was calling me into a season of stillness.
A season of just Him and me.

I spent that time praying, crying, writing, listening.
Learning to be still.
Learning to trust.

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” — Isaiah 30:15

And slowly, God started sending me what I needed—
Supportive environments, clarity, healing, peace.
My discernment became sharper.
I couldn’t force myself to stay in spaces that didn’t nurture my growth.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”— Proverbs 3:5-6 🙏🏾

This isn’t just a hard season… it’s a holy one.
God is refining me.
And I’m learning that isolation with Him often comes before elevation with purpose.

Hello Beautiful People,

My name is Marissa Brooks, and I’m a Community Health Griot (Storyteller) and Public Health Researcher. I’m also the Founder and Owner of Community Oak Storytelling and Research, where I work alongside community members to elevate their lived experiences and advocate for better health outcomes in marginalized communities.

Welcome to "Love Me To Health"—a space dedicated to my personal journey of healing, growth, and truth.

I recently turned 40, and to be honest, this chapter of life looks very different from what I imagined. In April, I was laid off due to federal grant cuts. Since then, I’ve faced depression and anxiety. I’ve gained weight. I’m managing high blood pressure. And yet—here I am. Still choosing to show up, still choosing to heal.

This page is my sacred space to explore what it means to truly love myself back to health. It’s about reclaiming my story—one rooted in identity, ancestry, intuition, and truth. I’m leaning into historical awareness, healing generational wounds, deepening relationships, and nurturing my mental, physical, social, and spiritual health.

This is not just about wellness—it’s about wholeness.

My hope is that through sharing my stories and healing journey, I can inspire you to slow down, go within, and come home to yourself, to the parts of you that feel most real, most alive, and most free.

Let’s heal forward, together. ❤️

With love,

Marissa B.
