Rorisang Mohapi Grootboom has been wearing happiness differently lately.
It is difficult not to notice.
Yes, she looks beautiful. The smile is bright, the pictures are lovely and marriage clearly suits her. But that is not even the part that has stayed with me.
I am looking at the woman underneath all of that.
She looks like somebody enjoying love while still remembering that she has a whole life to build.
That makes me incredibly proud of her.
I have a lot of respect for people who enter marriage understanding that the wedding day is only the celebration at the door. Once the beautiful clothes are packed away, the visitors have gone home and the photographs stop circulating, two people still have to wake up and build an ordinary life together.
That is where marriage becomes serious.
You are dealing with work.
Money.
Fatigue.
Family.
Different personalities.
Responsibilities.
Plans that do not always happen when you expected them to.
Two careers growing at different speeds.
Two people changing as life changes them.
From the little Rorisang and Prince Grootboom have chosen to share publicly, I like that they seem to understand that they are both still individuals with careers to build.
They are both actors. They understand sets, long working hours and what it means to perform opposite other people. Rorisang has spoken about the understanding they have around their work and the importance of keeping professional roles separate from their real relationship.
That sounds healthy to me.
Not because any of us knows the private details of their marriage. We don't, and we shouldn't pretend that we do.
I simply appreciate seeing a young woman get married and still look hungry for her own future.
That matters.
Sometimes society does something strange to women after marriage.
Before the wedding, everybody wants to know about her dreams, her education, her work and everything she is trying to achieve.
Then she gets married and suddenly every conversation begins and ends with somebody's wife.
Her individual journey becomes smaller in people's minds.
I don't want that for Rorisang.
Celebrate Mrs Grootboom.
Celebrate the marriage.
Celebrate the beautiful chapter she has chosen.
But please leave enough room for Rorisang too.
The actress.
The young woman still learning.
The woman thinking about business.
The woman who has spoken about discipline and consistency.
The woman who still has years ahead of her to discover just how far her own ability can carry her.
That young woman deserves just as much attention.
I first became interested in her through the acting.
Lulama on Gqeberha: The Empire gave many people an introduction.
Then came Palesa on House of Zwide.
Now we are watching another side of her through Bahumi on Kwa Baba.
I like seeing that movement because the characters have not simply asked her to stand in the same place and repeat herself.
She is still young enough to make mistakes, improve, surprise us and discover parts of her craft that even she may not fully understand yet.
That is exciting.
I don't need to call her a legend before she has had the chance to live her career.
I don't need to manufacture an empire around a woman who is still laying foundations.
Let her be young.
Let her learn.
Let her have roles that work and roles that teach her painful lessons.
Let her walk into rooms where she still feels nervous.
Let her keep meeting actors who make her raise her own standard.
That process is valuable.
One of the things she has said recently that stayed with me is that talent alone is not enough. She has spoken about consistency, discipline, learning and continuing to improve.
Now that makes sense to me.
Television can play dangerous games with a young person's confidence.
One year people barely know your name.
Then suddenly your face is in millions of homes.
People recognise you at the shops.
Your followers increase.
Your photographs start travelling.
Interview requests arrive.
Brands become interested.
People who never answered your messages suddenly know exactly who you are.
If you are not careful, attention can convince you that you have already built something permanent.
Entertainment does not work like that.
Audiences move.
Shows end.
Budgets change.
Characters disappear.
Another talented young person arrives.
That is not an insult to anybody. It is simply an industry that never stops moving.
So I am always encouraged when somebody young understands that the good season is also the season to prepare.
Work while the work is coming.
Learn while doors are opening.
Save while money is flowing.
Listen while experienced people are around you.
Understand the contracts you are signing.
Understand what your name is becoming.
Understand your finances before expensive clothes start convincing you that looking successful and being financially secure are the same thing.
They are not.
That is also why I was happy to hear Rorisang speaking about building a business alongside entertainment.
I am not going to call her a business mogul because she has mentioned a business.
Social media loves doing that.
Someone starts selling something on Monday and by Friday we have promoted them to billionaire entrepreneur.
Let people build properly.
Business is not an Instagram bio.
It is learning customers.
Making mistakes.
Understanding costs.
Losing money sometimes.
Correcting bad decisions.
Working when nobody is praising you.
Discovering whether an idea actually has legs.
If Rorisang is entering that world, I hope she gives herself permission to be a student there too.
Her acting career can give her visibility, but visibility and business ability are not automatically the same thing.
Learn it.
Study it.
Ask uncomfortable questions.
Understand where every rand goes.
Work with people who know more than you.
Protect your name.
Build slowly if slowly produces something solid.
That is the kind of investment in herself that I want to see.
And education is part of the same conversation for me.
I don't mean everybody must spend the rest of their lives collecting qualifications just so people can applaud graduation photographs.
Education is much wider than that.
It is remaining teachable.
It is reading.
Training.
Watching people who are better than you without becoming jealous.
Understanding your industry beyond your own job.
Learning money.
Learning business.
Learning communication.
Learning how ownership works.
Learning enough that one day you are not only standing in front of somebody else's camera waiting for somebody else's opportunity.
I want that for Rorisang.
Today she can be the actress arriving on set with a script.
One day she may be the woman developing the story.
Producing it.
Financing part of it.
Creating opportunities for actors whose names nobody knows yet.
That kind of growth does not happen because somebody keeps telling you how talented you are.
It comes from deciding that talent is the beginning of the education, not the end.
Then there is another side of Rorisang that deserves space.
The way she speaks about women.
She has said that women should be able to celebrate one another instead of constantly competing.
I hope she carries that belief for a very long time.
Women are compared over absolutely everything.
Marriage.
Bodies.
Faces.
Careers.
Money.
Clothes.
Children.
Houses.
Age.
Followers.
Who received the role.
Who attended the event.
Who has the richer partner.
Who is supposedly ageing better.
Who is trending today.
It must be exhausting living as though another woman's good news has somehow stolen something from you.
I would rather see another kind of womanhood.
A woman gets a job and remembers another talented woman's name when another opportunity appears.
A woman starts a business and pays other women fairly when she eventually has the ability to employ them.
A woman learns something useful and passes some of that knowledge on.
A woman can sit next to another beautiful woman without immediately turning the room into a competition that nobody asked for.
That is far more useful to me than inspirational captions about empowerment.
One day, if Rorisang's career becomes as big as she hopes it will, those ideas will matter even more.
Sisterhood becomes very easy to speak about while everybody is still trying to get through the same door.
The real test arrives when you are already inside.
Then you have access.
You know producers.
You know casting people.
You know brands.
You understand rooms that once frightened you.
That is when remembering another woman becomes meaningful.
I hope she becomes that woman.
The one who can eventually look behind her and make the road slightly less confusing for another young girl.
Not by carrying her.
Not by pretending hard work is unnecessary.
Just by refusing to believe that only one woman deserves space.
Perhaps that is why seeing Rorisang married makes me smile beyond the wedding photographs.
Her life appears to be becoming fuller, not narrower.
Love has arrived.
Work is still moving.
Her thinking about business is developing.
She is still speaking about growth.
She is still ambitious.
Those things are allowed to live in the same woman.
A wife can dream.
A wife can build.
A wife can study.
A wife can make money.

Banzi has found himself right in the middle of a complicated love triangle on The Four of Us! 😂❤️🔥
On one side there’s Lethabo, and on the other there’s Ntsiki — and judging by the way things are unfolding, neither situation looks simple. 👀
Feelings, history and unfinished business are all starting to collide, and Banzi may eventually have a difficult choice to make.
Between Lethabo and Ntsiki, who do you think will ultimately win Banzi’s heart? ❤️😂
