Wrestling With Gaming

My name is Yahel and I'm the creator behind Wrestling With Gaming, a channel where I create documentary-style videos covering all aspects of video game history as well as the occasional game review. My videos aren't lazily made opinion pieces. They are well researched and meticulously edited mini documentaries, made with the goal of preserving gaming history and educating others about it along the way. Some of the topics I've covered include the history of the Game Genie, Sega's 32 bit internal war, the 3DO, the story of the Philips CD-i, the making of Superman 64, the story behind the Super FX chip, and the story of the Power Glove, just to name a few.

The music in the old Sharkwire promo segments in my latest video got copyright claimed. I'm fighting the claims but may end up having to reupload with the music in those segments removed. If it isn't resolved soon I'm going to unlist the video so if you want to add it to your watch later now or check it out before I possibly re-upload it, here's the link: https://youtu.be/btmQWGPbNZ8

Today marks the 30th anniversary since XBAND, the online multiplayer network, was released for the SNES & Sega Genesis. I made this documentary about it 5 years ago featuring interviews with the developers. It had matchmaking, email, leaderboards, etc. This was basically xbox live in 1994 for 16 bit consoles! It's the video I'm most proud of.

🚨 ICYMI My new video on the history of NBA Jam is out now. Watch at this link: https://youtu.be/3HoCv1gzVC8?si=tngGt...

I'm running a thumbnail test so you may see it with a different thumbnail. This video covers NBA jam from its inception, development, to its demise.

I'd love to hear what version of NBA jam you all prefer, whether it's one of the arcade games or home ports.

Also, I'll probably livestream this weekend. Either Friday 11/1 or Saturday 11/2 late in the evening.

ICYMI I released a new video last Saturday covering the 1999-2009 Physical PlayStation store that was the home of launch events for the PS2, PSP, PS3, Resident Evil Outbreak, and more. There's a ton of footage from these events in the video. Up next will the Story/Making Of NBA Jam, which I've already started editing.

If Perfect Dark coming to Nintendo Switch Online has you in the mood to learn about it, I made this video covering the making of it a couple of years ago.

I'm still working on the next two videos (the physical PlayStation store and the making/history of NBA Jam). I'll probably have one of those out around 6/28

I released a new video last Saturday on Nintendo's late 90s flash carts for the Super Famicom (SNES) and Game Boy. These were rewritable flash carts made by Nintendo themselves that could hold up to 7 games. Definitely not something we'll see from them again. #nintendo #gaming #retrogaming

Below are the results for the topic poll I posted 10 days ago. (Tap the picture to see full results.) I was already working on the Nintendo Power Flash carts video and it came together very quickly. In fact, I'm already editing it so that video will be out next (possibly as soon as this weekend, but certainly by next weekend). From there I'll work on the NBA Jam and Playstation Physical store video at the same time. The research is pretty much done for the NBA Jam video, but since it'll be a longer video than the one on the Playstation store, it may actually be released 3rd. I was VERY surprised to see Blitz poll so poorly.

And did you know that only 3.7% of my subscribers have notifications turned on for both my channel and for their youtube app? If both aren’t on you won’t get a notification when I release a new video. For last month's Game Boy video only 4,000 out of 108,000 subscribers received a notification. Yikes lol. So IF you want to be notified of my new releases please make sure you’ve turned notifications on for the channel and enabled notifications for your YouTube app.

I wanted to get everyone's preferences on which of these topics they'd like to see covered next/most on the channel. I've already started work on some of these but will take the results into account to decide whether or not I keep them or push them off for later.

If you have any other topics you want to see covered please feel free to list them in the comments! I know that some of these have been covered quite a bit on YouTube but, imo, are missing some tidbits of interesting information or are kind of visually uninteresting/outdated. Just my personal opinion 😅

Today is the 35th anniversary of the Game Boy's Japanese launch. If you haven't yet, please consider checking out my new video below covering the real story behind its development like who really invented it and its mid development cancellation.

(Don't worry, this is the last post I'll make about this video... probably 😅)

ICYMI last week I released my new video covering the behind the scenes drama and turmoil during the development of the Game Boy. Full video link: https://youtu.be/HlxH_Th3-LI?si=GkNJW...

This video covers completely different ground than the one released by Real Engineering. Below are a couple low FPS gifs of the beginning of a CG sequence I made looking at the Game Boy's internals. #gameboy #nintendo
