Studio update.

After the New Year break, the studio is back online.

2025 was a solid year — five books published and a lot of behind-the-scenes work to simplify shipping and fulfillment going forward.

Thanks to everyone who’s been here, and to those who joined along the way.

This year is about deeper studio work — experimental finishes, heavier surface language, and projects that blend old-school Japanese studio discipline with newer directions of my own.

Merry Christmas from the studio.

This has been the biggest year of my career — five books published, and more books and model kits shipped than ever before. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of that. I don’t take it lightly.

After a long stretch of invisible work behind the scenes, it’s been good to slow things down and spend some quiet time back at the workbench. For those waiting on orders, books have been air-freighted and US book orders will begin shipping from January as the warehouse comes fully online. Everything’s moving as planned.

EXCIMER is progressing well. Right now it’s a focused phase — testing finishes, working through a couple of technical experiments (micro-chipping and a more advanced winter whitewash), and letting the build settle without rushing it.

I’ll be fairly quiet over the break — a bit of time with family, a bit of reset, and some focused bench time.

Pushing deeper into the Micro Chipping Process for the EXCIMER hero build today.

This isn’t weathering — it’s pre-weathering.
Tiny, controlled abrasions inside the colour coat that reveal the undertones and set the surface up for everything that comes later. Three colours, three behaviours… and a lot of interesting data coming out of these tests.

I’m building this as part of a new format of focused studio tutorials I’ll be rolling out in 2026 — short, high-impact guides pulled directly from my bench workflow.

Back at the bench with EXCIMER this week.

ScaleACT 25 was a huge inspiration boost, and it’s been great to push the next round of tests on the hand-primed, pre-mottle approach from the HUND series — now scaled up onto the FALKE airframe. Early metallic experiments are looking promising and colour coats are next.

Building the Booth — ScaleACT 25

A few firsts this year 👇

Two years ago I could only fit two books on a table — one sold out instantly.
This time, for the first time ever, I had all six Studio Editions in print and on display together. That might not sound huge, but it felt massive on my end.

Also the first time I gave the booth a proper design pass — cohesive layout, signage, and a bit of studio flair. I’m pretty stoked with how it looked, and really appreciated all the kind words about it.

And of course, huge thanks to the ScaleACT crew for putting together the friendliest show yet.

What I got wrong?
I ran the whole thing solo.
No kits this year.
No energy left by Sunday.
Missed the Saturday night catch-up (still kicking myself).
And yes — I need to arrive earlier next time. Setting up while chatting with everyone was pure chaos. Turns out I still can’t do multiple things at once. 😅

Grateful for every conversation, handshake, and smile at the booth. You all made the weekend.

📦 Proof of Life — The GHOST Has Landed!

Hey folks — quick update from the Studio!

The new Workbench Editions have officially arrived — fresh from the press and ready for ScaleACT 25 this weekend. I actually helped unload the boxes myself this afternoon, so I can confirm they’re very real, very heavy, and looking absolutely fantastic. 😅

It’s been a long sprint getting everything lined up — three new books, new print specs, and the first run heading out to Canberra for the show. Once I’m back next week, shipping will kick off for all orders placed through the store.
