Biggest single moment: The time I got to ink this Iron Man double page spread with about 20 armors. So I worked for Marvel for roughly 4 years late 90's. I got to ink a bunch of X-Men title work but most of it was all rush work. A few pages here or there. Was hoping for a series of course. I did Aquaman at DC comics, after which they didn't have anything for me. Wasn't for my lack of trying. When I went up to the Marvel offices looking I could only get piece work. They were putting out a dozen X-Men related titles so I got art from titles Cable, Alpha Flight, Wolverine, Gambit and even Uncanny X-Men! I did work with Jim Calafiore on a 48 page Century one shot. (Century was from Force Works.) But timing wasn't great, it came out just as the main title was cancelled if I remember right. Well somehow I got to ink 2 half issues of my favorite Marvel character Iron Man. This particular double pager I clearly remember working on at 3 am in the morning. They needed it ASAP the very next day, so I was still young enough. I could go without sleep one night, no problem. I was stocked to get such a cool page as well. Jim out did himself with the art on this. Back then I only had a radio in my Brooklyn apartment, so I had that on for company. So, at 3 am, working on this Iron Man double pager, on the radio came on that Black Sabbath song we all know by now, made popular by the Iron Man movie of course. (For those that didn't know it before.) "I am Iron Man" came on the radio and I rocked out to it! 🔥🔥🔥
Taking only a short break before getting back to inking. Finished around 10am that morning, took the train into Manhattan, went up to the editors office and handed in the pages, invoiced for them. Took the train back home and slept. I either received more pages at the office or a package from FedEx and got back to work later that night. haha
