As the first female Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, Honourable Justice Ritu Bahri took the oath of office on February 4,2024 on Sunday and the ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan.

Honourable Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) gave Justice Bahri the oath of office. She replaces former chief justice Vipin Sanghi, who retired on October 26 last year. After his retirement, senior high court judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari was made the acting chief justice of Uttarakhand.

She became the second woman to hold the position of chief justice amongst 25 high court.Last year, Honourable Justice Sunita Aggarwal, a judge of the Allahabad High Court, was appointed Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.

Before taking up the role of Chief Justice of Uttarakhand, Justice Bahri served as a judge at the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
