Hey, a quick Christmas Day update. At the end of my Stalker video I said that all money from this channel/Patreon will go to Ukraine's relief fundraiser.
Wanted to let y'all know that number has totalled £500 ($630) so far, and will only keep climbing. I'm so glad that we, even as a small channel, could still contribute. Thank you to all of you!
Essay seven of seven, our last one, is "every game analysis video essay" by Tom O'Regan. This is the one. The wikipedia-page delivery. The forced psychology reference. Four intros without a single payoff. This is what we've all been building towards.
Essay six of seven is "Born Sexy Yesterday" by Pop Culture Detective. This feels like required reading (watching?). Born Sexy Yesterday is a famous theory of storytelling that we have all encountered and either bought into or hated without knowing exactly why either way, but I have never seen it explained so concisely and with such a clarity of thought as in this video.
Essay five of seven is "Notes From Along Kentucky Route Zero" by Noah Caldwell-Gervais. His videos are always long, barely edited, and feel more of a stream of consciousness than an essay. But you just can't stop listening. His video on Kentucky Route Zero is long and meandering but also intensely personal, all things that the game is too.
Essay four of seven is "Sekiro's Parry and Other Pursuits of Perfection" by Jacob Geller (yes, he gets two spots). It's hard to talk about this one. The closest I came to describing it is that it gave me the same feeling as finishing The Beginner's Guide: a part of yourself is brought under a microscope, gently examined, and you come out of it understanding why you do what you do just a little bit more.
Essay three of seven is "Control, Anatomy, and the Legacy of the Haunted House" by Jacob Geller. I think this is up there as one the most popular videos from one of the most popular essayists, so most of you have probably seen it, but if not then you really should. I've never been able to look at a house the same again.
Essay two of seven is "Madness at Sea" by Horses. It's tough to pick a favourite from Horses, every video he makes is on a topic I never knew or had any interest in, and by the time he's done I am infatuated by it. I think Madness at Sea, his video on a disastrous race around the oceans, is my favourite because it has a docu-drama level of quality and delivery
Hey y'all! While I'm working away on some big projects I thought it'd be fun to take the first week of 2024 and highlight a different essay I love from another creator each day. Over the next 7 days I'll be sharing some FANTASTIC videos I keep returning to. You may know them already, but if you have not I hope they connect with you too! 💛
The first one is "Games you can never play again" by The Cursed Judge. He has this clarity of thought I find really admirable, anyone who plays games can relate to what he says, and the opening sequence detailing the last days of the Halo multiplayer servers is just so damn well done. Check it out!
Hey! I'm taking a short break from writing so you won't hear from me till 2024, which will bring with it some really great videos and a few other secret projects. A lot of stuff I'm hyped to share! I'm going onto my second year of doing this and I want to keep getting better. Not "overproduced", I like how personal these videos feel to me, but definitely more in-depth on bigger topics, so get ready for that.
