We hadn’t spoken in almost 14 years. I tried to mend things, she wasn’t receptive. She always wanted to talk about what I said that hurt her, which was always just in self defense to something awful she had said to me.
She was an alcoholic and maybe a bit mentally ill. My childhood was hard. As an adult, I’ve spent more time not speaking to her than I’ve spent on speaking terms with her.

I’ve been feeling broken since I got the news. At church today they talked about peace and I decided I wouldn’t let her steal any more of my joy and peace. Today has been a better day.
I heard someone say that we have 2 chances at a parent/child relationship. It didn’t work out for me the first time. This second chance is working out great! Through God’s amazing grace, I’ve had the chance to build an awesome relationship with my own children.

My mom died last week…
