As Caribbean people, we've inherited the story that our cultural foods are "too much" π₯΅
That, in order for us to be healthy, we have to abandon our roots & familiarity and 'get-in-line' π (it's giving -izer vibes)
I created The Cultural Fix to rewrite that story βπΎππΎ
β¨ It's a 3-day accelerator designed to: βοΈ help you reconnect & see cultural foods from an empowering perspective βοΈ get to the root of what's holding you back on your own journey βοΈ help you to gently nourish your body without cutting out the foods that raised you
π« Day 1: mindset π« Day 2: balanced cultural plates π« Day 3: sustainable meal planning
β¨ I'm feeling incredibly grateful to be featured in todayβs World Health Day article @trinidadexpress
I'm even more moved by this message from a client ππΎ
πThis article is more than a just spotlight β itβs a reflection of my mission as The Cultural Dietitian: to honor our heritage, embrace our cultural foods and to help our communities feel seen, supported, and nourished π
Thank you to the Cultural Fam' who continues to support this journey ππΎ
ππΎ Take a moment to read the article and let me know: Whatβs one cultural food that brings you comfort and connection? Iβd love to hear from you!
Fun fact: the dasheen plant is represented in my logo because it's a food that resonated deeply with me when I considered what foods are "Caribbean" and represent our food culture πΉπΉ
The heart-shaped leaf is an added bonus ππ
β¨ It's a low-calorie food that's rich in vitamins C & K
β¨ Because the dasheen bush is often cooked with other vegetables like pumpkin and ochro, you really compound the nutrients and benefits you gain when you consume this food
β¨ Make it a side dish or the main meal (callaloo "soup")... However you spin it, it's a nutritious option that I highly recommend you should be getting more of
ππΎ What about you? Do you like dasheen bush, and if yes, what's your favorite way to cook it?
