Food Around The World

Food Around the World is a documentary channel about everyday life, family, and time spent together.

Here, “around the world” does not mean travel or tourism. It means different worlds of life — quiet, simple, and lived at a slower pace, close to nature and home.

We share films about people, their routines, seasonal work, and food as part of daily life. Not as a destination or a spectacle, but as something real and familiar.

Our films are made with respect for silence, work, and ordinary days.

Thank you for watching.

Food Around The World

On this channel, we often show simple life in villages, remote places, and life in the mountains far from civilization. But today, I want to share something different...

In large cities and frontline towns in Ukraine, everyday life looks very different now. People live through long winters without electricity. Homes are lit by candles. Streets go dark. Daily routines change, but life goes on.

We created a separate music channel called STILLHERE to tell these stories — not through news or images, but through calm, human songs about real life as it is today.

These are not political messages. They are reflections on endurance, dignity, and how ordinary people keep living under extraordinary conditions.

If you’re interested, I invite you to listen and subscribe. Your thoughts and impressions would truly matter.

Thank you for being here and for taking a moment to understand another way of life.

Food Around The World

A new winter film with a woman who lives far from civilization in the Carpathian Mountains is coming today.

Today, Friday (09.01.2024), we are sharing a quiet winter story from the mountains — a film about everyday life, cold days, simple work, and warm food.

In this video you will see a winter morning, snow, movement, silence, and cooking that is simply part of the day.

Below are the recipes shown in the film for those who asked.

Flour — 3–4 tbsp

Salt — to taste

Black pepper — to taste

Vegetable oil — for frying

Butter (optional) — 20–30 g

Lemon — for serving

Preparation:
Rinse the trout and pat dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper on both sides. Lightly coat each piece in flour, shaking off the excess.

Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the trout for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden. At the end, add a small piece of butter for aroma if desired. Serve hot with lemon slices.

🥔 Country-Style Oven-Baked Potatoes with Herbs

Ingredients:

Potatoes — 1–1.2 kg

Olive or vegetable oil — 3–4 tbsp

Salt — to taste

Paprika — 1 tsp

Dried garlic — ½ tsp

Rosemary or thyme — to taste

Black pepper — to taste

Preparation:
Wash the potatoes well and leave the skin on. Cut into large wedges.

Mix the potatoes with oil, salt, spices, and herbs. Spread on a baking tray in one layer.
Bake at 190–200°C (375–390°F) for 40–45 minutes, turning once, until golden and soft inside.

🥗 Sauerkraut and Carrot Salad

Ingredients:

Sauerkraut — 300–400 g

Carrot — 1 medium

Onion (optional) — ½ small

Sunflower oil — 2–3 tbsp

Sugar — a small pinch (to taste)

Black pepper — optional

Preparation:
Lightly squeeze excess liquid from the sauerkraut if needed. Grate the carrot and finely chop the onion.

Mix all ingredients, add sunflower oil, a pinch of sugar, and pepper. Let the salad rest for 10–15 minutes before serving.

🍎 Lunch / Dinner
Veal and Apple Stew (Warm Winter Dish)

Ingredients (4 servings):

Veal (shoulder or lean cut) — 600 g

Sweet-and-sour apples — 2–3

Onion — 1 large

Carrot — 1 medium

Broth or water — 300–400 ml

Butter or oil — 2 tbsp

Honey or sugar — 1 tsp (to taste)

Bay leaf — 1

Salt — to taste

Black pepper — to taste

Thyme or marjoram — optional

Preparation:
Cut the veal into medium cubes (2–3 cm). Season lightly with salt and pepper.

Heat butter or oil in a deep pan. Brown the meat on all sides, then remove and set aside.
In the same pan, sauté the onion until soft. Add the carrot and cook for 3–4 minutes.

Return the meat to the pan, add broth or water, bay leaf, and herbs. Cover and simmer on low heat for 40–50 minutes until the meat is very tender.

Core and cut the apples into large pieces. Add them to the stew along with honey or sugar. Gently stir and simmer for another 10–15 minutes. Adjust seasoning and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

From our entire team, and from all the families and people whose lives we share on this channel — we wish you a peaceful, warm, and kind New Year.

Our New Year episode with Svitlana and Dmytro’s family is now available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYeyM...

Below, by your request, we’re sharing the New Year table of Svitlana and Dmytro’s family — simple, honest dishes they prepare every year at home.

NEW YEAR TABLE — SVITLANA & DMYTRO’S FAMILY

Olivier Salad (Classic Family Style)

Ingredients:

* Potatoes — 5–6 medium
* Carrots — 2
* Eggs — 5
* Boiled sausage or cooked chicken — 350–400 g
* Pickles — 3–4
* Canned green peas — 1 can
* Mayonnaise — to taste
* Salt — a pinch

Preparation:

1. Boil potatoes and carrots in their skins, cool, peel.
2. Boil eggs hard, cool.
3. Cut all ingredients into small, even cubes — this is important for texture.
4. Squeeze excess liquid from pickles.
5. Add peas, salt lightly.
6. Mix with mayonnaise — enough to make it juicy, but not heavy.

📌 Family tip:
Olivier always rests in the fridge for at least 2 hours so the flavors come together.

Herring “Under a Fur Coat” (Layered Beet Salad)

Ingredients:

* Herring fillet — 2
* Potatoes — 4–5
* Carrots — 2
* Beets — 2–3
* Eggs — 4

* Mayonnaise — to taste
* Salt

Preparation:

1. Boil or bake all vegetables, cool completely.
2. Dice herring finely.
3. Chop onion very small (optional: rinse with hot water).
4. Layer in this order:
* Potatoes → mayonnaise
* Herring + onion
* Carrots → mayonnaise
* Eggs
* Beets → generous layer of mayonnaise
5. Let rest overnight in the fridge.

📌 Carpathian style:
Beets are grated not too fine — the salad should have texture.

Homemade Caesar Salad (Simple, Family-Friendly)

Ingredients:

* Chicken breast — 2
* Iceberg or romaine lettuce
* Cherry tomatoes
* Hard cheese (Parmesan or similar)
* White bread — for croutons
* Garlic — 1 clove
* Oil (olive or sunflower)

Sauce:

* Mayonnaise or yogurt — 3–4 tbsp
* Garlic — ½ clove
* Lemon juice
* Salt

Preparation:

1. Fry or bake chicken until golden.
2. Cut bread into cubes, toast with garlic.
3. Tear lettuce by hand.
4. Mix everything just before serving to keep it crisp.
5. Add sauce and cheese.

📌 Family version:
No anchovies — mild and kid-friendly.

Smoked Chicken Thighs

Ingredients:

* Chicken thighs — 2–2.5 kg
* Salt
* Paprika
* Black pepper
* Garlic
* Mustard (optional)

Preparation:

1. Marinate at least 4–6 hours, preferably overnight.
2. Smoke using fruit wood (apple wood).
3. Medium heat, 1–1.5 hours.

📌 Carpathian rule:
The smoke aroma is the main ingredient.

Country-Style Potatoes (Smoked or Baked)

Ingredients:

* Potatoes — 2–3 kg
* Oil
* Salt
* Paprika
* Garlic
* Rosemary or thyme

Preparation:

1. Cut potatoes into large wedges.
