The Aardwolf is a member of the Hyena family. Their name means “Earth Wolf” in the South African Afrikaans language.
They are not related to the aardvarks, or wolves!
Despite the name and similar diet of termites, they are not related to aardvarks or indeed wolves – and as already described, are actually a member of the hyena family.
This “earth pig” has powerful tearing claws and a forceful set of hind legs to push its way in. It also has rabbit-like ears, and a tail like a kangaroo!
